My Comments
Godzilla Raids Again is a very good film, not one of my favorites, but it does contain probably one of the most vicious kaiju battles ever. Plus it introduced my second favorite kaiju, the fierce Anguirus! My copy of Godzilla Raids Again is in English, and the dubbing is kind of weird, man I need to get a hold of the Japanese subtitled copy. Well, as you all know, the American version is titled Gigantis the Fire Monster. So now that we're all on the same page, I'm gonna give you the synopsis of the Japanese version.
Synopsis
Tsukioka and Kobayashi, two pilots for a small Japanese fishing fleet, are on patrol searching for schools of tuna when Kobayahi’s plane begins to malfunction and he is forced to make an emergency landing on Iwato Island. Tsukioka is radioed his location by his girlfriend and soon joins Kobayashi, who both witness a vicious battle between Godzilla and Anguirus. The monsters battle to a stand still and then plummet into the ocean, disappearing from site while Tsukioka and Kobayashi make a hasty retreat back to Japan. In Japan, the pilots tell the authorities about the monsters, the authorities then call in Dr. Yamane for his opinion. Yamane warns that these monsters (one of these being the same species as the 1954 Godzilla) are just as dangerous as the Godzilla who attacked Tokyo the previous year, but was killed by the Oxygen Destroyer. This new Godzilla approaches Osaka as the city is being evacuated, but the JSDF manages to get Godzilla back into the ocean with large flares. However, escaping convicts from the Osaka prison cause a massive explosion at the city’s oil refinery, attracting both Godzilla and Anguirus to the city, where they engage in an epic battle until Anguirus is seemingly killed by Godzilla. Godzilla then retreats back into the ocean, leaving Osaka in flames.
Tsukioka and Kobayashi are then transferred to the Hokkaido branch of their fishing company since the one in Osaka had been destroyed. However, news soon came that Godzilla has struck again, destroying a fishing boat and while on patrol, Kobayashi spots Godzilla in a huge ice field and flies low to try and keep Godzilla on the island. But his plane is struck by Godzilla’s radioactive heat ray and crashes into the icy mountain, causing a small avalanche which gives the Japanese an idea to bury Godzilla in an avalanche of ice. Then, in an all out attack, jet fighters bombed the mountains surrounding Godzilla, completely burying him in ice, hopefully forever.
