King Ghidorah returned in 1991 with a new origin. The Futurians, a group of people from the future time travel back to the year 1991 to try and keep Japan from becoming an international super-power in the 23rd century. In order to do this, they travel back in time to Lagos Island in the year 1944 and teleport the Godzillasaurus, a dinosaur that would later mutate into Godzilla due to H-Bomb tests, to the Bering Sea. They then leave three biologically engineered creatures they call Dorats behind on the island to be exposed to the radiation of the H-Bomb tests before they travel back to 1991. When the crew of the mission returns, they discover that the Dorats have merged into a single, three-headed monster dubbed King Ghidorah. Under the control of the Futurians, King Ghidorah begin destroying Japan city by city, carrying out the plan to stop Japan from becoming a future superpower. Soon, in an attempt to stop King Ghidorah’s reign of terror, the Japanese try to create a new Godzilla from the dinosaur in the Bering Sea by sending a nuclear submarine to attack it. However, Godzilla has already been reborn thanks to a previous accident with a Soviet nuclear submarine, exposing the Godzillasaurus to radiation, making an even larger and more powerful Godzilla thanks to the modern radiation. Godzilla soon makes his way to Japan and King Ghidorah is sent in to destroy him. After a tense battle, Godzilla finally claims victory after leveling King Ghidorah with a nuclear pulse and then blasting the central head from King Ghidorah’s body with his radioactive heat ray. Godzilla then destroys the Futurian ship and sends King Ghidorah crashing into the ocean. Roaring in victory, Godzilla then makes his way toward Tokyo. However, Emi Kano, the Japanese Futurian, returns to the future and rebuilds King Ghidorah as the cyborg, Mecha-King Ghidorah to try and save Japan from Godzilla’s wrath...
