| King Ghidorah is the most powerful of all the Sacred Guardians of Yamato. In the past, the three-headed dragon laid waste to ancient Japan until he was slain and his spirit and body entombed. However, while his body and spirit rested, the Japanese actually turned King Ghidorah into a deity, worshipping and appealing to him until he became a guardian and protector of the Japanese sea. In the year 2002, King Ghidorah was called upon to do battle with Godzilla alongside his fellow Yamato Guardians. King Ghidorah and Mothra battled Godzilla as the Monster King attacked Tokyo, but Godzilla overpowered the three-headed dragon and knocked him out cold. However, King Ghidorah was able to heal himself after Mothra transferred her dying life-force to him, also allowing his powers to mature and attack Godzilla at full strength, enabling him to drive Godzilla back into Tokyo Bay. Not even this was enough to stop the all-powerful Godzilla though and King Ghidorah was also destroyed by Godzilla’s powerful radioactive heat ray. | |
