My Comments
My first big time monster battle movie, I remember going to Video Max in Faribault looking for it one time and finding out it was alredy rented. However, I returned the next day and rented it then watched it with my family and we all really enjoyed it. The special effects were really good, except Toho seemed to have blown it's budget on Ghidorah's gravity beams so Godzilla's heat ray was more like a mist.
Synopsis
While a group of astronomers watch the skies for signs of UFOs, a meteor shower catches their eye and they witness one of the meteors crash near the Kurobe Dam. Meanwhile, Japanese intelligence has learned that Princess Salno is visiting Japan in order to escape assassins in her country. However, fearing that the assassins would follow her to Japan, Detective Shindo is assigned to protect her, but the airplane the princess is traveling on blows up in midair and she is presumed dead. But Shindo’s sister Naoko, who works for a local TV show, gets a tip that a prophetess claiming to be from Mars has appeared and is warning the citizens of Japan that monsters will reappear in the country. When Shindo sees a photo of the prophetess, he instantly recognizes her as the princess. Soon the prophetess predicts the return of Rodan and sure enough, he appears from the very volcano he was entombed in back in 1956. Godzilla is next, appearing in the Pacific Ocean and destroying a boat before attacking Japan. But she also warns that a much more terrible kaiju is on the way from space, King Ghidorah. At the same time, the princess’ assassins have recognized her as the prophetess and arrive in Japan just as King Ghidorah emerges from the meteor near Kurobe Dam. After King Ghidorah ravages Japan for a time, Mothra and the twin fairies convince the battling Godzilla and Rodan to team together and battle King Ghidorah. After a lengthy battle, King Ghidorah is finally defeated by the combined strength of the three monsters and retreats back into space. During the confrontation, though, Princess Salino’s head is grazed by an assassin’s bullet during a gun duel with Shindo, and her memory returns to her.
