| The great serpent god Manda was the protector of the undersea kingdom of Mu, a city that vanished beneath the ocean ages ago. However, when the Mu decided to try and regain their lost control over the Earth, an ex-Japanese naval captain sent out his super-submarine, Atragon, to attack the kingdom. This was the Mu’s greatest fear, so they sent Manda out after the super-sub, attacking the ship and wrapping it in his strong coils. Manda nearly succeeded in destroying the mighty battleship, but he was driven off by a powerful surge of electricity from Atragon’s hull. Atragon then used its Zero Cannon, a weapon that could send out beams of extreme cold, to freeze Mu’s protector, completely encasing him in ice against an undersea cliff. With Mu’s last line of defense out of the way, Atragon was easily able to destroy the empire and save the Earth. However, Manda apparently survived the effects of the Zero Cannon and the destruction of the Mu Empire, but apparently lost his distinctive horns and whiskers in the empire’s destruction for Manda became one of the ten monsters incarcerated on Ogasawara Island. When the Kilaaks attacked and took control of the monsters on the island, Manda was sent to the city of London and wrecked havoc on the great city until he was ordered to leave and join Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra in attacking Tokyo. Later, once Earth had broken the alien control over the monsters, Manda appeared at Mount Fuji during the final battle against King Ghidorah, but only as a spectator of the fight. After the battle, Manda returned along with the rest of the monsters to Ogasawara Island, where he has remained ever since. | |
