| At the dawn of the new millennium, mankind’s latest weapon to try and defeat Godzilla would bring another threat to Japan. This new weapon, dubbed the Dimensional Tide, creates a mini-black hole that would pull Godzilla into another dimension, relieving Japan of his constant threat. However, after the Dimensional Tide was tested for the first time on an abandoned schoolhouse, the area where the black hole appeared became unstable, opening a rift in space and time. Through this rift a Meganura, a member of a prehistoric race of carnivorous insects, came through and left an egg behind, which was picked up by a young Japanese boy who took it to Tokyo with him. Hoping to care for the egg, the boy becomes frightened when the egg begins to leak water and drops it into the city’s sewer, where it hatches and gives birth to a swarm of Meganurons as well as floods the city. The Meganurons feed on citizens of the city and eventually evolve into the dragonfly-like Meganura, who then search out Godzilla in order to feed off of his radioactive energy. They locate the Monster King on a deserted island where the G-Graspers are trying to get him with the Dimensional Tide, but the plan fails. Several of the Meganura are destroyed in the battle with Godzilla, but many survive and return to Tokyo, giving the Monster King’s energy to one individual Meganuron they had chosen to become their leader, Megaguirus. Megaguirus soon rises from the flooded streets of Tokyo and leaves to find Godzilla and destroy him. Megaguirus attacks Godzilla as he arrives in Tokyo, heading for a hidden plasma power plant within the Japanese capital. The fight was long and very vicious, Megaguirus looked as if she might actually defeat the King of the Monsters, seeing as he was having a hard time dealing with her high-speed flight. However, Godzilla was finally able to figure out a way to attack Megaguirus despite her speed and eventually bite off the insect kaiju’s energy-vacume needle. Stunned by this mortal attack, Megaguirus tried to escape Godzilla by flying high into the sky, but the King of the Monsters was finally able to target Megaguirus with his radioactive heat ray and did so, blasting the insect kaiju from the sky and destroying her once and for all. | |
