History
The deity kaiju Mothra was awakened in 1961 when the Twin Fairies that worship her were kidnapped from their home, Infant Island. In her larva form, Mothra instantly headed to the Tokyo in order to rescue the fairies, laying waste to the great city in the process. However, in her attack on Tokyo, the Mothra larva was injured and then began to construct a cocoon around Tokyo Tower. Heat beams were used on the cocoon, charing it, but Mothra was unharmed and soon emerged as the winged, adult Mothra. Mothra then left Japan and attacked the nation of Rolisica, where the kidnappers had taken the Twin Fairies, destroying New Kirk City before she finally was reunited with the fairies and returned to Infant Island. Three years later, Mothra’s egg was washed off of Infant Island and all the way to Japan by a monstrous hurricane. Seeing the egg as a large tourist attraction, Happy Enterprises decided to purchase the egg and put it on display against the wishes of the Twin Fairies and Mothra, who returned to Infant Island knowing the larva would return once it hatched, but it would cause destruction in Japan when it did. At almost the same time, Godzilla returned and destroys Nagoya, causing the Japanese to ask for Mothra’s help and she agrees, even though she is at death’s door. Mothra flies to Japan and attacked Godzilla just as he was about to destroy Mothra’s egg at Happy Enterprises. Mothra was eventually defeated by Godzilla, but landed on her egg as she died, hiding it from the King of the Monsters and he wandered off to cause more destruction. The egg soon hatched and produced two larva, who set out to attack Godzilla on a nearby island, where they covered him in webbing and sent him crashing down into the ocean.

Later that same year, one of the two larva died, but the other was called upon by the Twin Fairies to try and persuade the battling Godzilla and Rodan to fight the bigger threat to the planet, King Ghidorah. The two monsters wouldn’t cooperate at first, but finally they came together along with Mothra to defeat the space monster, forcing King Ghidorah to retreat back into the blackness of space. Mothra then returned to Infant Island, where she apparently transformed into her adult form and fell into a deep sleep over the next two years. When she finally awoke due to the massive prayers from the enslaved islanders working for the Red Bamboo, she headed straight for Letchi Island, where she briefly fought Godzilla before grabbing her people in a net they had constructed and flying them to safety. Years later, a Mothra larva appeared among the incarcerated monsters on Ogasawara Island, where she was eventually taken control of by the invading alien Kilaaks. Under their control, Mothra attacked Beijing and then obliterated Tokyo with the help of Godzilla, Rodan, and Manda. Later, the monsters were freed from Kilaak control by the crew of the Moonlight SY-3 and gathered at Mount Fuji to attack the Kilaaks. King Ghidorah appeared and took on all the monsters, Mothra, along with Kumonga, sprayed the three-headed monster with webbing throughout the battle, trying to entangle the space kaiju so the other monsters could finish him off. Mothra then returned with the other kaiju to Ogasawara Island.
