| This was a pretty good film and was also the first Toho film to feature aliens trying to take over the world (something that would become quite common in the future). There are many great battle scenes in this film, which are accompanied by very nice special effects. Well, here's the synopsis, in a nutshell... | |

The alien species known as the Mysterians fist made their presence known to humanity in 1957, when following several disasters in the Mount Fuji area (which included the rampage of a giant robotic kaiju known as Moguera); their leader met with five scientists and revealed their alien history to the world. The Mysterians were a peaceful race of aliens who were originally from the Planet Mysteroid (a planet between Mars and Jupiter), however, with their advanced technology, ancient Mysterians had already achieved nuclear power and long ago had a nuclear war that destroyed their planet, creating the Asteroid Belt. The few Mysterians that escaped the doomed planet traveled to Mars to make it their home, but they and their descendants were unfortunately contaminated by their nuclear war with Strontium-90, horribly mutating the alien species. Upon colonizing the wasteland that is Mars, the Mysterians remained there until people from Earth began claiming Mars as their own. Seeing this, the Mysterians requested a three-kilometer piece of land on Earth to have as their own and for the right to marry Earthling women. In fact, it would later be revealed that this plan had been in the works for quite some time, with the Mysterians hiding behind Earth’s moon and carefully selecting a place to hold their first strike (of course, Japan). In 1957, the Mysterians secretly came to Earth in their UFOs from the space station on the dark side of the moon and hid underground in the Mount Fuji area, eventually causing all of those catastrophes in the Fuji area mentioned prior and unleashing their robotic kaiju Moguera, which was destroyed and analyzed, revealing that the metals that made it were not from our planet. At the same time, a Japanese scientist viewed Mysterian UFOs appearing from and disappearing into the dark side of the moon through his telescope before a large dome suddenly appeared from beneath the ground in the Fuji area, this is when their intentions and history were revealed to the world.
Angered by the Mysterians’ demands and learning that the aliens had already abducted some Earth women, war is declared on the invading aliens, but once the military attacks the Mysterian Dome, they are quickly beaten back and all but destroyed by the aliens. Seemingly wanting peace and not war, the Mysterians claimed they would use force if again attacked by humanity. The United Nations soon came together and launched a second attack against the Mysterians with two newly built ships dubbed BETA-Class Aerial Battleships, but in the end one of these new ships was destroyed and the Mysterians demanded even more land (now ten kilometers), but actually wanted the entire Earth for themselves. Following this second assault, the remaining BETA-Class Aerial Battleship was fitted with electron guns in order to weaken the Mysterian’s Dome along with additional firepower from the new Markalite Cannons, which would rain down atomic heat rays upon the dome as well. The plan was a success and the dome began to weaken and as the human captives inside escaped, the Mysterians vowed to retaliate if the attack was not stopped, and they did with a flood that destroyed one of the Markalite Cannons and a nearby village. Also, a second Moguera suddenly appeared beneath the second Markalite Cannon, but was destroyed along with it as the massive weapon fell on top of the robotic kaiju. However, the assault by the BETA-Class Aerial Battleship’s electron cannon continued and eventually destroyed the dome in a large explosion before attempting to chase down some escaping Mysterian UFOs, but was unable to catch them. The remaining Mysterians then docked their UFOs at their space station before retreating off into the blackness of space, never again to be seen by human eyes. |
