My Comments
This film is even better than the previous one, both MechaGodzilla and Titanosaurus look great. This film marked both the return of Ishiro Honda as director and the end of the Showa Godzilla series of films. Godzilla then went on hiatus after this film until 1984's, "The Return of Godzilla." Now for the synopsis...
Synopsis
A giant, underwater dinosaur suddenly attacks a research submarine searching for the remains of MechaGodzilla. Interpol investigates the attack and finds out that a scientist named Dr. Mafune may have discovered the dinosaur many years before. Interpol agent Murakoshi and biologist Ichinose visit the doctor’s home and are told by Mafune’s daughter Katsura, that he is dead. Meanwhile, the aliens from the Third Planet in the Black Hole have returned and are about to launch another attack on Earth with their reconstructed robot, MechaGodzilla along with the aid of Dr. Mafune and his dinosaur, Titanosaurus. Katsura tells Ichinose not to search for Titanosaurus and in a flashback it is learned that she was killed in a lab accident years before and the aliens revived her with their technology, turning her into a cyborg. However, Katsura falls in love with Ichinose anyway, even though she controls Titanosaurus and sends him to attack the biologist’s submarine. But Ichinose activates the submarine’s sonar, the one thing that hurts Titanosaurus and forces the aquatic monster to flee. Godzilla soon arrives and challenges Titanosaurus, attacking him viciously. During the battle, Katsura is shot trying to destroy Interpol’s sonar weapon and her body plunges into the ocean. The aliens retrieve her body and implant the MechaGodzilla controller inside her and once she revives, sends both MechaGodzilla and Titanosaurus to destroy Tokyo, but Godzilla soon intervenes. As Godzilla battles the two monsters, Katsura is shot again by Murakoshi, ending her control over MechaGodzilla and Titanosaurus. Godzilla then defeats MechaGodzilla and buries him underground then takes out Titanosaurus while Interpol keeps him busy with their sonic weapon.
