Anguirus 1968-74
Anguirus`68-74

Played by: Hiroshi Sekida, Yukietsu Omiya, and Mamoru Kusumi

When Anguirus returned after a thirteen year absence for 1968’s “Destroy All Monsters”, he returned with his same classic look with some improvements that made him look much better than he did in 1955. These improvements included new, thick, scaly skin (appearing as gray for the first time ever), the spikes and horns were colored a dirty white/yellowish color, the neck was now ribbed, and the fangs on the top of the upper jaw were made longer and kind of went out to the sides. The nasal horn and crest of horns on the head also appeared larger. The eyes were made larger and the expression of the face was a little kinder, but the suit still had a vicious facial expression thanks to a built-in frown. Also, in this and the other films Anguirus would appear in afterward, the crew no longer made an attempt to hide the fact that Anguirus crawled on his hands and knees, much to the relief of new Anguirus suit actor Hiroshi Sekida. The same suit was refurbished and used in 1972’s “Godzilla vs. Gigan”, 1973’s “Godzilla vs. Megalon”, and 1974’s “Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla”. The only major change in the Anguirus suit during this time was the removal of the long fangs in 1974 for “Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla”. Also during this time, Anguirus was portrayed by Yukietsu Omiya and Mamoru Kusumi, who also played King Seesar in Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla.
