It had been a year after Gillas' attack on Sidney. Australia and the world still grieved over the loss of the glorious city. The rebuilding was still underway and progress had been made but there was still much to do. Gillas had moved up the coast and now had made a lair somewhere in the Ryukyu Islands. The island now had a research post lead by Dr. Sidney. She was the world's leading expert on Gillas. It seemed that gillas' migration had now stopped since it had found a climate to its taste. Yet Japan now knew that destruction could come any moment.
Tokyo was one of the biggest bustling cities in the world. Pedestrians lined the street, doing shopping, work or anything. It seemed like a regular day in the city that had a larger population than Hong Kong. The usual citizens and civilians were living there ordinary lives. At first it seemed like a light rumble. Then the earth began to shake and buildings collapsed. People ran and screened as the ground beneath them raged. The pedestrians went for shelter as the quake continued. But just as it started, the quake was over. The earth returned to its regular state and people started to emerge. Some debris littered the streets, but not too much damage had been done. What was stranger was according to the seismographs, only Tokyo had been hit.
Dr. Fugawa, a Japanese geologist, was assigned to find the answer to the mysterious quake. He tried to think how only that area was affected by the quake. He then had and idea and he and his scientific team decided to put sound waves through the ground for answer. The machines were set up and when ready, the sound waves went out. At first it seemed nothing. Then a shape was noticed: a giant bug. The scientists looked as sound waves continued through. As the worm squirmed in the soil, the earth shook. There was no doubt this was the culprit.
Immediately Fugawa sent the picture from the sound waves to anthologist Richard Denvin. He was able to identify it as an ancient pill bug that had thought to have gone extinct when amphibians came into the picture. However it seemed that it had lasted, though he couldn't explain the size. The question was solved when the soil had radiation which meant it was enlarged by nuclear means. Yet another reminder to ways man was destroying itself. Tokyo was then evacuated for the disposal of Tectora.
At the research post, Dr. Ridley was at work in her office. She had to file a report on Gillas by the end of the month. She was humming a tune to herself when she got a call on the radio. She answered and heard "doctor, Gillas is gone and according to the research helicopter, he's on his way to Honshu!" Ridley got out of her chair and said "you’re serious?" She was given an affirmative. She instantly called the mainland and was told about Tectora. She then understood Gillas was going to Tokyo to fight Tectora.
The gun batteries surrounded Tokyo. Apaches and F-15s flew overhead, all waiting for Tectora to surface. They didn't wait long. There was huge tremor and then all seemed still. Suddenly Tectora burst through the ground in the center of Tokyo. The giant pill bug screeched and the artillery began firing. Tectora was at first confused by the hostile attack. It then rolled up into a ball and rolled down streets, destroying man and machine. Buildings crumbled under the force that hit them. Already the center of Tokyo was a crumbled mess. He continued his roll of destruction when suddenly there was a loud roar that pierced the air. In the center of Tokyo Bay, Gillas emerged and roared a challenge to Tectora. To show his might, he fired his solar flame at a building, instantly igniting the structure.
Dr. Ridley had got in the helicopter and eventually picked up Gillas' trail. As they followed Gillas, she thought of what might happen. Gillas was a strong monster and she had great faith in him. However, this Tectora had urged Gillas to fight him, meaning he wasn't a pushover. They came into the Tokyo bay area and saw Tectora. Then Gillas surfaced and destroyed the building, a common animal tactic to scare the other. She just watched everything take place from her helicopter.
Tectora let out a piercing scream to show he was not intimidated! He then went up to a building and burrowed beneath it, where he severed the foundations of the building, starting a chain reaction as story by story, the offices crumbled to the ground. Tectora then seemed to mock Gillas by arching his back towards the sky, trying to impersonate Gillas' bipedal stance. Tectora then got into a defensive position while plotting his next move. Gillas roared and let loose a torrent of solar flame. Some of it bounced of and hit Gillas while the rest hit the surrounding buildings and began an avalanche of debris on Tectora. Gillas roared in pain from the reflected flame. He grabbed a fishing ship in harbor and threw it at Tectora. He then exited the bay and advanced on Tectora.
Dr. Ridley's chopper was almost hit by the reflected flame but just missed. She stared in amazement at the two monsters. Tectora, surprised at the projectile, lowered his head and charged! He hit Gillas and the two monsters went hurdling back into the bay. Trying to swim with his many legs, Tectora only barely managed to paddle over to Gillas and bit onto his frill. Gillas roared in anger as Tectora hit him. He began to hit Tectora as hard as he could but to no avail. He then used his two arms to try to open Tectora's mouth. He succeeded and then grabbed Tectora and threw him onto land. Tectora, angered from Gillas' violent hurling, flips himself over and screams. He rams into a building, forcing it to fall towards the bay, making debris scatter all over and on top of Gillas, damaging his frill as he roars in pain. Tectora was stunned by the sudden violent approach but managed to shake it off just in time. He roared as he burrowed underground. Then, the earth started to shake and all of the sudden, Tectora came bursting out of the soil underneath Gillas and he sent his enemy flying. Tectora then started running around the wounded kaiju to confuse it. Tectora then stood aside, leaving his opponent all shook up and thoroughly dizzy. Gillas flailed around in hopes of hitting Tectora and landed a hit with his tail. He then grabbed Tectora and bit into him, releasing his venom into Tectora while Tectora's venom went into him. Tectora, surprised at Gillas's suicidal attempt, flailed around until his frilled opponent was forced to les him go. Tectora then rolled into a ball, tumbling around all over the place, knocking over buildings and sending debris flying everywhere! Gillas suddenly began to feel ill. It wasn't his poison, that was for sure. He realized it must be Tectora's. He then slipped into the ocean to try and recover.
Dr. Ridley watched overhead and could tell something was wrong with Gillas. She took out her UV reader and began to track Gillas.
Tectora felt victorious from his "win". But then he himself started feeling woozy himself. Not knowing what to do, he went back to the nuclear testing laboratory that started his mutation in the first place. He then burrowed into the ground to gain more energy.
The army was still recovering from the initial battle. A bunch of the batteries were destroyed. All the tanks were ordered out and instead were ordered in more aerial units. The colonel in charge ordered Dr. Fugawa and Dr. Ridley to figure out how to fight of the two kaiju. Dr. Ridley thought about what could be used to fight Gillas. What kind of weapon could be used against the giant lizard? Then it hit her! Gillas was cold-blooded and maybe cold temperature would drive him off.
At the same time, Dr. Fugawa probed into everything known about Tectora. He then realized that if they hit Tectora with sound, it could disorientate them.
The two scientist sent in there ideas and automatically the army began making liquid-nitrogen missiles and sound wave dishes. When they appeared, they'd be ready.
It had been days. Tectora squirmed in his underground tunnel. He could still sense the poison flowing through his body. Even though it was mostly gone, he still needed more cleansing. After a long wait, he sensed strong nuclear activity coming not far from his location. Craving the substance ha was created by; Tectora resurfaced and started walking in the direction of the signal, which continued getting stronger as he neared the army research center.
A day passed by when Ridley reported "Gillas is coming back." At the same time and unidentified flying object came towards the military. Then a picture came in and people saw Tectora's adult form. It was like a mix between a mantis and a dragonfly. Both Gillas and Tectora would reach Tokyo in a day. The day seemed to pass quickly, and Gillas emerged from Tokyo Bay while Tectora landed. Gillas roared but did nothing and waited for Tectora's move. The army then began attacking with there new weapons. The nitrogen missiles hit Gillas and hurt him. Gillas roared in pain while the sonic waves were used on Tectora. Tectora, feeling refreshed and ready to kick some tail, flew towards the bay. Roaring in triumph, he summoned his locust army to cure any other battle wounds he hadn't taken care of himself. Circling the bay and surrounded by thousands of flying insects, he presented a pretty frightening sight for any onlookers unfortunate enough to be there. He knew it might take days, maybe weeks, but he would wait for as long as he needed for his reptilian rival, growing stronger by the hour. Gillas saw Tectora above and quickly unleashed a line of Solar Flame on Tectora. He roared and continued to release ray after ray of Solar Flame. He roared at Tectora in challenge and exited the harbor but stopped at the beach.
Dr. Ridley watched all this and realized if Gillas couldn't win then there wouldn't be anything able to stop the terror that was Tectora. She crossed her fingers and hoped that Gillas would win.
Tectora roared in pain as the solar ray hit him! He reeled back and hit a building. Getting up, he charged at Gillas. Gillas was surprised and did not expect the violent ram. As Tectora hit, Gillas roared and he cut Tectora's abdomen with his claws. Tectora roared back and dug his mandibles into Gillas, sucking out his solar energy. Tectora then received a powerful blow from Gillas, sending him flying back! Having been unexpectedly hit, Tectora had not amassed enough energy to fire upon Gillas so he was forced to wait until he could strike again. Gillas gasped for breath after Tectora's attack. He caught his breath and then strode toward Tectora while Tectora jumped in front as the two monsters began to fight. Gillas clawed and slammed his body against Tectora while the insect once again bit into Gillas. Gillas roared in pain as Tectora began to sap his energy, but this time Gillas was ready and hit as hard as he could on mandible, breaking it. He then grabbed the other mandible and threw Tectora into the harbor where he started blasting him with streams of Solar Flame. Tectora was greatly wounded by Gillas's attack. There was only one thing he could do. Even though he had not amassed enough energy he decided to use what he had to blast Gillas. His adversary was surprised by the attack and failed to duck far enough. The top of his frill has ripped off and he suffered burns on the top of his head. Angered by the attack, Gillas clutched his head in anger and he could only watch as Tectora rose from the bay to fight again. The pain on top of Gillas' head was excruciating. He tried to get to his senses as Tectora rose. Just then Tectora noticed Ridley's chopper. She tried to run away but Tectora was faster and was almost on her. Then all the sound wave generators hit Tectora and he became deaf. Gillas then unleashed a torrent of Solar Flame, Burning his wings so Tectora dropped to the ground as it screamed in pain. Tectora, puzzled by his deafness, struggled to get up after being hit. His wings were damaged so he could only fly lopsidedly. Making an effort, he lunged right at Gillas and landed on top of his head where Gillas's solar flame couldn't hit him. He then started clawing Gillas's tender scalp as his adversary screamed in pain. Gillas screeched as Tectora clawed at him. He rammed his head into a building making Tectora release his grip. A few flying debris hit him but most of it hit Tectora. Tectora emerged, thirsty for revenge, but was hit in the head by Gillas' tail, toppling him. Gillas roared and repeatedly let loose Solar Flame on Tectora, enraged at the insect. With each of Gillas' blast Tectora's carapace became more and more burnt. Tectora was getting desperate. He didn't have very many different options. Then he had a brainwave! Summoning all his energy, he sent his psychic links deep into the earth. Then, millions of insects came bursting from above and below! The air was black with hundreds of thousands of tiny bugs! They swarmed into the battle scene and started repairing their master. Gillas was covered in them. He summoned all his power to blast the locust’s bodies off him. Using his solar flame, he managed to get some of them but the fight between lizard and insect still wore on. Gillas ducked into the water and washed off all the insects. Gillas' rage burned furiously and when he surface he began to charge his Solar Flame. Tectora flew forward to try to defeat him. Gillas unleashed all his energy into the Solar Flame. The torrent engulfed Tectora, incinerating him. Gillas roared and began the long journey back to his island.
