GvK II: Wrath of the Metallibugs
By: Ben Steinmeier & James Ewasiuk
Prologue
The world has been repeatedly threatened by giant monster attacks. Among the most famous of these attacks is the attack on Ukania by a monster named Komodogater. The croc reappeared, and attacked the cities of Haloy, Osaka, and then later Gillas Island. On the island, a research center to study the resident monster Gillas, Komodogater fought with Gillas. The battle ended in a tie, and Komodogater disappeared, only to reappear in America to fight Flameron, a robot sent by a mysterious race known as the Liberators. Meanwhile, it seems that Gillas has gone rogue, after an attack by the freelancer militant group, the 'Plain Warriors.' Gillas then fought a number of kaiju, including two engineered beasts by a second race, the Aquarius, in Vancouver, and then Mission.
Both of these kaiju are currently hiding somewhere in the pacific, and searched for by the Fire Bringers, an international peacekeeping force that is a special branch of NATO.
Ukania, considered the second largest city in Canada, but that was only due to population. It was a situated on the pacific coast of Canada, somewhere above where Vancouver is. The city currently looked splendid, with at least most construction efforts finished. The tallest building, the Ukania Tower, soared 1600 feet above the ground, taller than Empire State Building, and roughly 200 feet shorter than the CN Tower. After being destroyed in New York by (ironically) Komodogater, the Fire Bringers main office was moved to Ukania. It was this splendid city, that about two hundred miles east, soldiers were giving up their lives.
You see, two hundred miles east, a struggle was going on. On a huge plain, and literally huge, a combined force of Canadian and Fire Bringer forces combated two gigantic monsters. The first, was Tentacon, a, a giant, disgusting, slithering, octopus, nothing more. The second was Mocerba, a beast who resembled an upright standing dinosaur, with an armored back, four fingers on each hand, and no tail. They had no special abilities at all, like some monsters, but had managed to kill so far about fourteen soldiers all the same. No-one knew how these monsters were created, but that was the same with most monsters.
Tanks opened fire, as soldiers desperately realized their handheld assault rifles weren't doing anything. The commanding Officer, Colonel Montage, ordered all forward batteries to open fire. As he watched all the shells and bullets go whizzing at their foes, exploding with loud cracks, he wondered how much it would cost to replace all of them. But his train of thought was interrupted by a splat, and purple octopus guts came sailing and raining down upon the soldiers. Tentacon was dead. Mocerba roared at its fallen comrade, though the humans doubted it was smart enough to have any real compassion for it. Mocerba tried to advance on the men, but was pushed back the heavy tank and artillery fire. Eventually, a lucky tank shell hit his neck, and his head went flying off, landing in a pile of trees, squashing them. The body simply slumped over, next to Tentacon.
The men cheered for their victory. One lieutenant asked Montage…
"Sir, this is great and all, but what do we even do with the bodies?"
"I have no idea," Montage replied. "But we can't get rid of them yet. Set up a military perimeter around the bodies, if you will." The man nodded, and ran back to his men spurting out orders.
The meeting between The Firebringers and MDF (Monster Defense Force) began. The two groups both had similar goals and were talking at the Firebringer's headquarters in Ukania. At the head of the table was Alfred Poole, The president of The Firebringers. On his left was the Firebringer's top scientist, Stanley Hanson, and on Alfred's right was Jim Smith, the head of MDF, with Catherine Ridley, MDF's best scientist, on Jim's right. This wasn't the first time that the four had met each other, since they worked together on Gillas Island.
Alfred stood up and said "nice to see you again, Jim and Catherine. It's been a while. Now I've called you here because of the MDF's recent arrival to North America. You see, both The Firebringers and The MDF's goal is to stop the giant monsters, but we covered different grounds. Now, we need to find a way for our two groups to work together."
"Well," said Jim, "are two groups aren't exactly the same. MDF is a group of scientists who work for the military, while The Firebringers are a sub-group of the military."
"What are you exactly hinting at Jim" asked Alfred.
"Perhaps we could work with The Firebringers" said Jim. This way we wouldn't butt heads over monster issues."
"If we did do this, you would be working with Stanley" said Alfred. He turned to Stanley said "would you mind that, Stan?"
Stan said "O, I don't think so. It would greatly benefit each other, and it'll be neat to work with colleagues of my field."
Alfred said "then it's settled. The MDF will be working for The Firebringers, and together we'll be able to stop the catastrophes that are these giant monsters."
High above the earth, something hurtled quickly, at speeds un-attainable by humanity. It was large, about the size of a two story house, and was falling very quickly. It made contact with the atmosphere, and flames of extreme heat burnt around it. It finally reached the ground, slamming straight into the earth. The location: Somewhere in British Columbia, Canada, a few miles from the site of Mocerba and Tentacon. It had gone far from un-noticed: NASA, the Konan Scientific Institute, and the Fire Bringers, had all been tracking it, though Alfred Poole had not yet been notified.
In the meeting, Stanley Hanson, along with his aide Emily Lent, presented to the MDF their weapon. Stanley mounted a diagram of a bomb on the wall, and began pointing to different sections of the picture.
"As you know, both Gillas and Komodogater pose a significant threat." He said in his English accent. "However, we believe that Komodogater more so. Gillas is currently recovering from his recent battle, and as we have seen, he only comes ashore when dealing with a threat. However, Komodogater has had longer to recover from his battle with Flameron, and he is also incredibly aggressive. Gillas's venom has driven him insane, and we believe he is now the Number One threat to the world, Al Queada be damned. It is of the utmost importance we stop him. Emily and I have developed a gas, well, an acid more like. We call in Hyper Acid: When dropped on Komodogater, it will magnify the effect of Gillas's venom one million times, hopefully killing him." Stanley sat down, while Jim and Catherine whispered quietly to each other about the weapon.
General Lance Reynolds walked in, and Catherine immediately glared at him. No-one liked him. He was a rather vile man. Especially Stanley, who enjoyed bugging the irritable Reynolds. When the two met each others eye, Stanley smiled and waved mockingly. Reynolds gritted his teeth and whispered in Alfred’s ear.
"Sir, something has landed close to Ukania. We are not quite sure what to do" Reynolds asked. Alfred looked at the scientists.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, I believe this will be our first operation together. Something has landed near Ukania, and I want you to check it out. We will be also sending fifty armed soldiers to assist you."
"Soldiers?" Reynolds said.
"General Reynolds, last time something landed like this, we had a deformed bear running lose, and these kind people had a plant with a very nasty bite. You do the math. Meeting adjourned!"
As the people left, Catherine pulled Stan aside and said "I need to talk to you." The two walked a bit down the hall when Catherine said "I'm not quite sure about this poison, Stan."
Stanley looked surprised and said "I'm not quite sure what you mean, Catherine."
"According to you", said Catherine, "the poison gas amplifies Gillas' poison, right?" Stanley nodded. Catherine continued "if that's the case, this could be turned into a weapon against Gillas. If you amplify Gillas' poison, then Gillas might not be able to adapt and it might kill him."
Stanley sighed and said "You're right Catherine." He sighed again and said "but I'm hoping it might not come to that. If we can, we won't use the poison on Gillas. I know Gillas is starting to go back towards his old ways, but I don't think we can count on Gillas to fight Komodogater all the time. If Gillas and Komodogater fight again, we'll use the poison gas as a last option. I promise." Catherine nodded and they both went down the hall with the rest of the group.
As the team left, Alfred Poole called General Gregory Lambert to his office.
"Yes sir, what did you need?" the General asked inquiringly.
"Gregory, I need to do something of the utmost importance. The plans you gave me, the ones I said were risky, but I gave the okay anyways? Well, one of them-" Alfred handed a folder to Gregory. "I need to keep secret from the MDF. Believe me, I don't like hiding things, but if they found out what we're doing: Well they might break this partnership, and even try to take us down, considering how the last two attempts turned out. Just, don't tell them. I have no doubt they would be angry."
"Yes sir" Gregory Lambert replied grimly, touching his hat, and leaving.
As the scientists approached the crash site, they saw huge amounts of smoke rising up. The FB had already set up a military perimeter, and the fifty soldiers Alfred had promised, all in full combat gear and green camouflage uniforms, stood guard. The crater was much larger than the actual object itself, and they still couldn't see what it was. One soldier, an Englishman named Private Larry Harris watched them. His best friend, a Canadian named Albert Frost, stood beside him. Larry offered Albert a cigarette.
"No thanks" Albert replied, shifting his assault rifle to his other arm. "I'm trying to quit"
"Suit yourself mate. Bloody hell, what do you think it is?" Larry asked, blowing a puff of smoke out between his teeth.
"I dunno. Whatever it is, I bet they won't tell us. They never tell us. We didn't even find out what Komodogater was until he reared his god-awful head out of Ukania Bay." Albert relied. Larry laughed. ". And looked what happened to us!" Albert continued. "Remember when he sent that tank straight into that building. And the rubble came falling down on our men. Good job we didn't know them, boor bastards."
"Stuff of nightmares, he is. And those eyes!" said Larry. The two laughed.
As the jeep drew nearer to the object, Jim began to make out what it was.
"Holy Crap" he said quietly to himself, and the other three craned their necks to get a good look.
The ship looked like a classic UFO, with the disc look, but four spikes shot out like a shuriken. The UFO was about the size of a mansion, and it had three landing legs half out, like it was trying a last-minute landing attempt. It was still steaming from breaching the atmosphere.
Alfred Poole whistled and said "boy o boy, it'd Roswell all over again." He turned to Lambert and said "what would you advise be our first action, Lambert?"
Lambert looked unsure for a second, and then said "we might as well take a look and see what we can find out about it, but everyone should be armed."
As the guns were being handed out, Catherine took a P-90. Larry looked at her and said "you know how to fire one of those, miss?" It wasn't a mock, just a question. Catherine smiled and said "don' worry; I had training when I was working in Japan."
Alfred, Gregory, Larry, and Catherine went into the ship along with a group of ten soldiers. The inside of the ship was dark, and the halls were not very high. The UFO had tilted, so they climbed down until they hit a fork. Alfred ordered "me and Larry will head left with five, while Gregory and Catherine head right with five."
Alfred and Larry went down the hall until they hit what seemed to be the bridge. The place was totally trashed up, and there were two dead bodies. The aliens were hard to discern since they were ripped apart, but they seemed to be green with big yellow eyes and scaly. Larry said "what the bollocks do you think happened to them, sir?" Alfred didn't reply.
Catherine and Gregory went down the hall. The room they entered was large, with many crates. They guessed it was the cargo hold. Catherine said "I wonder what could be in the crates", but Gregory just looked around. Then there was a loud hiss and a soldier screamed. The two whirled there guns and they saw the horror. On the soldier was what looked like a giant, man-sized metal termite. The metal legs tore at him and rented his flesh. Gregory and Catherine shot it with there guns and it went down. But they heard more hisses, and not wanting to see the rest, ran up the hall. Gregory called in his radio "Al, get out of here. We have multiple hostiles, one man down. Leave the ship immediately!"
Everyone ran as fast as they could, and they heard the sounds of the metal termites storming down after them. The insects shrieked, gaining on the humans. One jumped, and landed on another soldier, mauling him to death with its giant mandibles. Gregory took out a pistol and shot it off, but the creature wasn't dead and jumped on Stanley, tearing at his legs. Stanley screamed as the creature bore into his legs. Catherine shot it dead in its head, and green blood oozed out. She picked up Stanley and with the help of Emily, carried him outside.
Alfred screamed at the troops, "Destroy the ship! Kill every last f*****g one of them!" Stanley groaned as his blood dripped to the floor. The Fire Bringers opened fire as soon as the last of them left the ship, firing into the entrance, while some hurled grenades. But it was no use. The creatures burrowed out of the wall, ripping it to shreds with their strong jaws.
"EVERYONE RUN!!!" screamed Jim, and they did just that. Larry and Albert scrambled into a troop carrier van, as it sped off, while some soldiers stayed behind to stall the insects. But it was too late. The creatures were to powerful. Though some fell in the volley of bullets, most charged onwards and leaped at the soldiers, mauling them. One however, injected a sharp tongue from its mouth into a soldier. The Soldier screamed and groaned as this happened, and fell on the ground clutching the wound. He started fidgeting and squirming as whatever had been injected took effect. His skin turned metallic like the insects, and also like them his eyes became green and huge. His body started to change, and he grew spines from his back, while his teeth sharpened and he grew taller and his arm became a tentacle. He then turned on the soldiers, attacking them. Gregory shot him, and he fell, spewing green blood like the insects. Catherine placed Stanley, who had fallen unconscious, into a jeep. She and Jim got in the back, while Emily got behind the wheel and sped off, trying to escape the horror. As the drove, Jim sat thoughtfully.
"Incredible" he said. "That man... they shaped him to their will: Bu how could they be so intelligent?" In another escape jeep, Alfred and Gregory drove with two dying soldiers in the back. Alfred screamed over the radio, "Mayday, mayday! Multiple hostiles of unknown origin have attack us! I want a blockade set up all around, each side within at least a hundred mile radius of the crash site! Larger if you can! And I want a jet squadron to bomb the whole region! The entire region! We are being invaded, I repeat, we are under an invasion by a giant race of insect, some sort of metal bug, I want you to bomb THE HELL OUT OF THIS REGION!"
The jeeps finally reached Ukania and everyone loaded out. "Are the bomber's coming yet" Alfred called into the radio.
He got a reply and heard "yes, sir. The bombers are on route right now."
Alfred sighed. He had lost good soldiers during the incident. He called to Jim "we've got to talk about this, Jim. Meeting in half an hour."
Catherine was walking up the steps when her cell phone rang. She answered and said "Catherine Ridley speaking....yes....what? But that makes no sense.....yes I understand....get a satellite image ASAP" and she hung up.
Jim came over and said "what was that about?"
Catherine was shaking her head and said "it's not good Jim. Headquarters’ got calls. Gillas has been spotted by Quesnel and it looks like he's going to hit Ukania."
"But I thought that Gillas returned to the ocean to recover" Jim blurted.
"That's what we thought," said Catherine, "but it looks like he went up the Fraser and Thompson River instead. We've gotta tell Alfred." The two sprinted up the steps to tell the bad news.
They were at the hospital. Stanley lay in a bed, with medical equipment strapped to him. Alfred stood by his bed, cursing that his best scientist was out of commission. He saw Catherine and Jim run into the room.
"What is it now? I've got enough on my plate already." Alfred blurted at them angrily.
"Alfred" Catherine began. "Gillas has been spotted heading to Ukania. It’s only a matter of time before he reaches the bay." Alfred swore, and kicked the bed, then swore again upon discovering the hardness of the bed, and the softness of his shoe. He ran his hand between his hairs, and put his other hand on his face.
"General Lambert is organizing the blockade. If the insects reach Ukania as well- well, anyways I need someone else to organize the defenses of Ukania." Alfred said shakily. Suddenly he stopped, and swore a third time. Catherine looked at Jim. They both knew who the only other man good enough for the job was. General Lance Reynolds.
"Catherine" Alfred said. "I think we need to have our little meeting now. Emily, call General Reynolds, and Norwell Laurence. We need to deal with these insects, and deal with Gillas. And for god’s sake, someone come up with a name for these things!"
General Lambert watched as the bombers flew in, raining hell upon the forests of British Columbia. No doubt the environmentalists would have something to say about this, but right now, the forest and its creatures had to be sacrificed to save the world. Or at least the province. Gregory watched from an outpost, attached to the huge electric fence barrier attempting to box the insects in. He had seen only about seventy of the creatures escape the ship, but he had no idea about their reproduction.
The bombers finished their last run, and Gregory raised his binoculars as the smoke cleared ad the fires dyed down. Ships flew overhead, dropping water to douse the flames.
Suddenly he felt the ground rumbling. Along the fence, the soldiers felt it too, as it grew closer, and closer. Gregory looked through his binoculars, and jumped back in surprise when he focused on an insectoid face. He lowered them, and fell down in shock, scrambling to his feet and loading his handgun. Before him, thousands, maybe millions of giant metallic insects stormed the fence, the electricity not fazing them in the slightest. The soldiers stuck their guns though the slots and opened fire, but the bugs broke through, slaughtering the humans as they went. Knowing there was no hope, Gregory called a retreat, and the soldiers ran for it, getting cut down as they went.
As Gregory climbed into a helicopter and took off, he saw the sight. An army of insects marched forth. Gregory remarked to his pilot, "It’s just like in those old science fiction films. The soldiers always get slaughtered, and then some civilian saves the day. Well not today. I promise you, the Fire Bringers will have their revenge." Gregory said grimly. He spoke through his radio to the nearest command station, "Hello, Red 2, this is Red 5, over." He waited for a response.
"Copy that red 5, what’s your status." the voice crackled in reply.
"Failure, I repeat failure, the bombers barely scratched them, and now there’s millions. But they are no longer headed for Ukania: Their headed for the site of Mocerba and Tentacon."
Catherine couldn't believe she was doing this. She walked down the streets Ukania until she got to a payphone. Just as she reached to grab the payphone, she stopped. Thoughts rushed through her head. Should she really do this? She didn't want Gillas hurt, but she had no choice. She began to dial, and when she was answered, said "I need to speak to the general. Tell him that it's Gillas' supporter."
The next day, a convoy entered Ukania. The military vehicles included jeeps, tanks, rocket launchers, etc. Alfred was waiting outside with Catherine and Jim. Jim and Alfred had no idea what was going on; Catherine had just said she had the problem covered. Jim and Alfred looked at her, hoping for an answer. Catherine just watched solemnly. One jeep pulled up to the steps, and a man stepped out, followed by Jim swearing. With his black boots, bristly mustache, and cold gaze, General Franklin Robertson marched up the steps.
Jim rounded on Catherine and said "how could you ask that bastard to protect Ukania? You know what he is, Catherine. He's as close to a nemesis to Gillas as you get!"
"Which is why I asked him" replied Catherine. "You know that I don't like Robertson either, but Ukania is at stake. I don't want Gillas to die, but we have to think of the civilians. The Fire Bringers are scattered, and we need help."
Robertson came up to Alfred Poole, saluted him, and said "General Franklin Robertson, Commander of The Plain Warriors, reporting for duty." Alfred returned it and Franklin said "we will be more then happy to help the Fire Bringers defend Ukania.
Jim scoffed and said "only because you'll get a shot at Gillas, who I believe has beaten you 2-0, if I'm right?"
Franklin glared and said "why do I always have to meet you, scum?"
Just as Jim was about to retort back, Alfred said "now is not the time." Alfred turned to Franklin and said "Gillas has been reported to be coming from the north. How fast can you set up a defense of the city?"
"If we move double-time," said Franklin, "maybe three hours."
Alfred said "you have two. Go now!" Alfred, Jim, and Catherine went back inside while Franklin went to give the orders.
Jim said "I don't see the advantage here at all Catherine."
Alfred said "this man has had experience in fighting monsters, not to mention any general is better then Reynolds."
"FOR GODS SAKE, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!" screamed a soldier. The Fire Bringers, for the third time, evacuated as they were overrun by the metal insects. Thousands of them stampeded into the Mocerba-Tentacon site. The officer in charge, Colonel Montage, yelled though the radio "Mayday, mayday! Condition red! The insects have overrun us, we are returning to Ukania! They are heading to the bodies of Mocerba and Tentacon! And after what they did to that soldier back at the ship-" Montage was cut off as an insect somewhere chewed through the radio antennae. They swarmed over the bodies, covering both completely, each of them injecting their sharp tongues into the dead monsters. They leaped off, and picked off the last of the soldiers who had not escaped, then for the first time, stopped, and simply waited. The two corpses suddenly began to twitch and shake, as they mutated. Their skin became metallic, and their body began to be shaped to the creatures will. Mocerba grew a second head, and a thick mane of fur covered its entire back. Both of its hands became huge circular saw blades, and it its now four eyes became huge, and green.
Tentacon grew two long, two-clawed legs, and its eight long slimy tentacles grew even bigger, and came out of a new torso like arms. In the middle of the torso, and slimy sucker like mouth opened, and let out a shriek. On the top of the torso, two huge green eyes. The two monsters roared, and along with their insect companions, marched toward Ukania.
As the plain warriors went about their duties, the staff had a conference. Attending, was the newly escaped General Lambert, whose face was stained with dirt and his uniform in tatters, second in command of the FB Norwell Laurence, Alfred Poole, Catherine Ridley, Jim Smith, Emily Lent, and General Robertson.
"First things first" Alfred said in a rather angry voice. "Someone come please come up with a god-damn name for these little buggers."
"Their metal bugs" Jim said. "Metal bugs, metal bugs, metallibugs" he muttered under his breath.
"What was that?" Norwell Laurence said. "I rather liked that."
"Just a slip of the tongue" Jim replied. "I was just saying Metal Bugs over and over again.
"Yes, I think we need a more scientific name” Catherine said.
"To hell with that! Metallibugs it is!" Alfred shouted out. "Robertson, how are you doing?"
"We've set up a lookout outpost on the Ukania Tower, and have batteries and rockets surrounding the city. Tanks and troops are contained within them. We are ready, Poole" Robertson said with a grin. Catherine glared. She could tell he was enjoying this.
"General Lambert, your report?"
"Not good sir. The creatures have taken control of the bodies of Mocerba and Tentacon. Sort of, re-animated them. I just don't understand sir, so many deaths" Gregory stopped talking and out his hand on his head.
"Very well." Alfred said. "Jim, Catherine, and Emily, I want you to go get Stanley out of the hospital. He’s all right, now just in a wheelchair. Then I want you find out what the hell the Metallibugs are, and how they can manipulate bodies and shape them to their will, and how their even intelligent enough to do that!"
Suddenly, a roar shook the building. A Plain Warrior came rushing down and yelled to Robertson, "Sir! Gillas has arrived!" Alfred said to the scientists, "And do it snappy!"
Gillas passed the hills that were north of Ukania and now advanced on the city. The giant monitor lizard watched as the soldiers scrambled to there places. He paid no heed, for no army had ever beaten him. He continued his march to destroy Ukania.
General Robertson held the listened to the radio. A call came through and said "Gillas has hot the perimeter, sir." Robertson replied "fire at will."
The tanks and rocket pads began to bombard Gillas with shells and rockets. It seemed that they had absolutely no effect. The bombardment continued, but the range was so far, they couldn't get a good shot. Gillas roared and fired a blast of Solar Flame, destroying a line of tanks. A squadron of Apache choppers came for Ukania and began to fire rockets at Gillas. Like the tanks, this did no damage and only made Gillas angrier. Gillas fired his solar flame again and caught the unlucky half of the squadron. Now the tanks began to fire since Gillas was in rage. Gillas roared in pain but swept with his tail and sent the tanks flying in the air like toys. The Plain Warriors couldn't stop the monstrosity, and Gillas entered Ukania.
The scientists heard the battle outside as they went about their work.
"This is difficult" Stanley said, stating the obvious. "The Metallibugs are from an entirely different planet, we have no idea where to start." Catherine nodded grimly. Gregory Lambert burst into the room.
"The Plain Warriors, their hopeless. Gillas is just cutting through them. At least their on our side." Gregory informed them.
"Our side? I suppose..." Catherine replied. "As long as you didn't tell them about the Hyper Acid."
"Oh dear!" Stanley said. "I may of ahem... mentioned it."
"What?" Catherine yelled in alarm. "General, take a group of soldiers to where to bombs are being kept, and for gods sake guard it, don’t let anyone come near it. This day could not get worse!"
Atop Ukania Tower, Alfred Poole and Robertson surveyed the area.
"Robertson, my men have returned. The FB can assist your troops."
"No! We must be the ones to destroy Gillas! In face, we have already, ahem, thought of a way." Robertson replied angrily, not bothering to look at Alfred.
"Well then you'd better use it, man!" Alfred retorted. But Robertson wasn't listening. He was looking through his binoculars, staring at Ukania Bay. The normally calm waters of the Pacific Bay were churning, and water splashed along the dock.
"What the hell is that?" Robertson asked, as a huge head reared from the water. But Alfred knew what it was. He had seen it too many times. It had survived him at Ukania once before, eluded him at Haloy, and escaped him at San Francisco.
"Mr. Robertson" Alfred began. "I have feeling your men are about to suffer a great deal. That, Mr. Robertson, is Komodogater." Robertson opened his mouth, a horrified expression on his face. Everyone knew who Komodogater was. And only a fool wouldn't feel nervous.
Catherine got a call on her radio. It was Alfred yelling "Catherine, get out of Ukania. Komodogater has just risen out of Ukania Bay. The two monsters are on a collision course."
Catherine cursed and said "we've gotta get out of here. Greg, you push Stanley's wheelchair. We’ve gotta get to the Hyper Acid stash fast."
Robertson turned to Alfred and said "we need that Hyper Acid now."
Alfred said "not now. I agreed to wait on the Hyper Acid if Gillas would lose. Only then would we use it."
Alfred turned and got the cold glare from Robertson. He said "The Plain Warrior's primary goal is to kill Gillas: we will get the Hyper Acid." Before Alfred could react, Robertson hit him across the back of the head and knocked him out.
Gillas recognized Komodogater's familiar roar and instantly went towards the bay. Komodogater now was on land and the two glared at each other down the main street. Komodogater roared and then began to charge. Gillas did as well and the two collided in a frenzy of tooth and talon. Komodogater slashed Gillas and Gillas fell against the side of the building. Komodogater extended his elbow blades, but got hit in the face by Gillas' tail. Gillas got up and the two continued to rip at each other; neither would back down nor stop.
A group of Fire Bringers made it too the Hyper Acid first, but were all gunned down by Plain Warriors. The Warriors grabbed the acid and made off with it, as the main force stopped firing on Gillas and went rogue. The Fire Bringers responded, and soon the streets of Ukania were filled with warring soldiers.
Meanwhile, the kaiju clashed. Komodogater sliced his blade down Gillas's belly, and blood spilled out. Gillas got up and unleashed a blast of solar flame, and swiped at Komodogater's neck, while Komodogater bit down on Gillas's windpipe. As the fight continued, both were in immense pain, pain that would have killed them in a fight against another monster. But they hated each other so much, some how they ignored it and fought on.
The Plain Warriors loaded the Hyper Acid into special cartridges and prepared to fire. Gillas and Komodogater continued to fight unaware of what was about to happen. General Roberts looked at his foe, which he had hated so hard. A lieutenant ran up and said "the shells are ready sir." Robertson said "open fire on Gillas and Komodogater."
The tanks fired the deadly ammunition. When the shots hit, both monsters stood at first, but then both dropped. Gillas was very weak as he felt his venom get stronger, and he barely clung. Komodogater, however, closed his eyes as he died or nearly did. Robertson smiled at his success.
As Gillas screamed in agony, he watched his foe slowly die. The cid had taken a tremendous effect on the crocodile. The evil monster roared into the air as the acid burned through his skin, showing bone. Smoke rose and Komodogater slumped to the ground. Everyone, including Robertson, stopped the fighting as they watched the once mighty monster succumb to the effects. His glowing red eyes dimmed, until there was nothing but black. The creature closed his eyes, and slipped into the void.
"Dear god" Alfred said to Stanley. "You did it. Your invention. It... It really did it!"
Meanwhile on the ground, the Plain Warriors moved in on the weakened Gillas. Gillas was very confused. These little men had finally actually done something to him! "All forces" Alfred spoke over a radio. "All-out assault on the Plain Warriors! And I want Robertson captured!"
Before the Plain Warriors could attack, they were sent in disarray as the Fire Bringers launched a vicious attack, as troops and tanks poured after the Warriors.
Alfred Poole and Jim Smith walked up to Robertson. The fight was short and the Plain Warriors were now at the mercy of Alfred. Alfred just looked disgustingly at Robertson, who was cuffed, yet standing straight like a proud soldier. "Well Robertson," said Alfred, "you've made a terrible mistake. You and your men will be under the full jurisdiction of the Canadian Government."
Robertson laughed and said "you think you have won, General? In truth, I have won. I've done what I always wanted: I have killed Gillas."
"Actually, you failed" said Jim. "Gillas adapted to the poison. You've made him even more dangerous, and you've screwed yourself."
"And why is that" growled Robertson.
"Because," said Alfred, "right now, Mocerba and Tentacon are on there way and they will kill us all, for the Metallibugs are right now killing the Fire Bringers."
Catherine looked at Gillas. He had come over the Hyper Acid, but he wouldn't be strong enough to win. Gillas crawled over and came snout to snout with Komodogater. Gillas' sail and ear flaps began to glow a luminescent orange. He opened his mouth and energy began to come out. The energy seeped through Komodogater's nostril like a gas being inhaled. Then Komodogater's eye began to glow again. Komodogater was alive. Gillas grunted and growled, and Komodogater replied the same way. This went on for several minutes. Alfred ran over and said "Catherine, what just happened?"
Catherine said "I'm not quite sure, but I believe Gillas gave Komodogater immunity to the Hyper Acid."
Alfred blurted "but then our weapon is useless."
"No it isn't" said Catherine. "While Komodogater is resistant to this level of the poison, the Hyper Acid will raise it higher if used again." Then both Gillas and Komodogater got up and began together to walk towards where Mocerba and Tentacon were coming. "And I think", said Catherine, "They’ve allied against the Metallibugs."
As the Plain Warriors, including Robertson, were loaded into prison vans, screaming about how they would escape, the Fire Bringers set up a perimeter in the direction the Metallibugs were coming, made of sandbags and barbwire. Unfortunately, most tanks had been destroyed in the battle with the Plain Warriors waiting for the onslaught. Gillas and Komodogater waited too, snarling and baring their teeth. Saliva dripped from Komodogater’s fangs. He was getting hungry, and Alfred worried that if Mocerba and Tentacon didn't arrive soon enough, the crocodile would turn on them again. But he didn't worry for long. Or at least, about that anyway, as soon, Colonel Montage ran up to Alfred.
"Sir! They've been sighted!" And sure enough, in the distance, advancing on the city, the huge swarm of Metallibugs marched, waiting to begin their slaughter. Standing in the middle of them, were Mocerba and Tentacon, mutated horribly.
"Dear god their ugly" Alfred commented.
"Load!" General Lambert called. The sound like hundreds of buzzing bees was heard as each soldier made a clicking noise, arming their assault rifles. "Wait for my command to fire!"
"Lambert, their in range!" Reynolds called.
"Right! Open fire!" Lambert yelled. Every gun opened fire, pouring hell into the metal ranks. Many fell, while many more charged forward. Komdogater roared, his impressive frill unfurling, and Gillas answered his call, showing off his strong. The two monsters charged for Mocerba and Tentacon, while below, the soldiers fought their own battle.
Gillas and Komodogater charged and Mocerba and Tentacon ran at them. Mocerba attacked Gillas, swiping at Gillas with his saw hands. Gillas was slashed across the chest, but span around and hit Mocerba, toppling him over. Mocerba got up again and began to fire a barrage of green lasers from both of his mouths. Gillas charged, taking the damage and tackling Mocerba backwards. As the two grappled on the ground, Mocerba bit onto both of Gillas' shoulders.
Komodogater charged at Tentacon, bit Tentacon squirted acidic ink at Komodogater's face, blinding Komodogater for a brief second. Tentacon took the opening and began to wrap it's tentacles around Komodogater. Komodogater regained his sight and extended his elbow blades. He swung his elbow blade and cut off two of the tentacles. Komodogater snarled in victory, but where a tentacle was cut off, two more grew.
The Fire Bringers fired there guns, but the Metallibugs continued to advance. Lambert knew that they could not hold out for too long on the open ground. He grabbed his radio and said "move into the buildings. The narrow hallways will decrease the number that can attack us at once."
As the Fire Bringers ran, their insectoid opponents gave chase, firing poisonous needles from their abdomens at the retreating humans. The Soldiers made their stand at Ukania Tower, which soared just over 1600 feet above their heads. The Metallibugs charged, and the soldiers opened fire. But despite the fewer concentration of the metal termites due to the streets, the insects were still to strong in numbers. Private Larry Harris, the radio operator fro his squad, yelled into a radio, "Sir, its still not working, over! We need air support, now!"
Back at the FB headquarters, the officials had been retreated farther than their men, and waited in the building for peace. Among them, Catherine watched out the window as Robertson and his men were loaded into a large jet plane, bound for a new prison on X-Island, the former Fire Bringer base. Suddenly, Catherine snapped her fingers.
"Of course!" She said. "It’s so simple! To get rid of the Metallibugs something that will destroy them for good! Insecticide!
Komodogater and Gillas switched combatants for the time being. Komodogater and Mocerba glared at each other, all six eyes resting firmly on their enemy. Komodogater fired his beam, sending Mocerba down, who replied with a jet of green laser. The two then charged, going to hand to hand, saw to elbow blade. Mocerba slashed across the crocodile’s chest, sending a jet of blood spilling onto the streets below. Komodogater growled and firmly sunk his teeth into Mocerba, drawing green blood, and generating volts of electricity throughout Mocerba's body.
Tentacon flipped Gillas over its back, and then sprayed the monitor with a great blast of acid. Gillas growled back, and swiped Tentacon across the side, showing green blood. Tentacon wrapped its tentacles around Gillas's neck, choking the dinosaur, but Gillas sunk his teeth into one tentacle and pumped venom through Tentacon's body. In pain and surprise, Tentacon let go, and was then met by a powerful blast of Solar flame in the face.
The Fire Bringers had to continue a fighting retreat or risk being overrun. Catherine ran back into the fray and yelled "we need an insectide air strike now!"
Gregory yelled "Catherine, you need to get the radio to the top of the tower so we can get a signal. Go now, while we can hold them off!"
Gillas was once again fighting Mocerba. Mocerba went into a frenzy, shooting lasers and swing his saw-hands like a murderer. Gillas dropped to all fours and tripped Mocerba with his tail, but Mocerba still nailed him with some lasers. Mocerba got back up and scored a hit with his saw on Gillas' shoulder, and it pierced Gillas' scales.
Komodogater fired his electric beam at Tentacon, and the octopus thrashed in pain. But Tentacon now tried to wrap around Komodogater again. Every time Komodogater chopped a tentacle off, two more would grow. Tentacon fired his acid spray and once again blinded Komodogater, and once again began to wrap around him. But this time Komodogater bit down. As Komodogater sunk his teeth into the juicy Octopus, he charged volts upon volts of electricity throughout Tentacon. The monstrosity screamed in agony, and fell down, but took Komodogater down with it. Komodogater burrowed underground, but the weak earth gave through and both went tumbling underneath.
Mocerba sent Gillas crashing into a building, and the rubble came crashing down on the dinosaurs head. Mocerba waited, thinking he had vanquished his foe, but was soon struck by a beam of Solar Flame which went shooting out, burning into Mocerba's metallic hide. Gillas burst forth, roaring and snarling, baring his teeth. The two charged at each other and grabbled. Mocerba sliced across Gillas's head, sending a fine spurt of red blood.
Catherine got to the top of the tower fast. She heard the fighting below as the Fire Bringers were pushed back, and quickly got the frequency of the radio adjusted. She called "this is Catherine Ridley, MDF, with a code red situation. Requesting insectide bombardment immediately over Ukania, immediate insectide bombardment on Ukania." Gillas and Mocerba continued to fight, but Mocerba was backing Gillas up to Ukania Tower. Gillas swiped, but Mocerba did a double energy blast. While one hit Gillas, the other hit the top of the tower. Catherine screamed as the top of the tower gave way and she began to fall. Gillas saw and caught her in his hand, while he snaked his tail in between Mocerba's legs and tripped him. Gillas put Catherine on top of a building and began to fight again.
Then Catherine heard on the radio "air strike bombardment request accepted. En route now."
Catherine was left breathless after this near death experience, and sat down, breathing deeply. The Jets swooped in, making a huge droning noise as they came. They dropped green gas from them, spreading it out evenly across the battlefield. The gas swept through the streets, killing many insects. When the gas cleared, hundreds of Metallic corpses litter the streets. But some Metallibugs had survived. The solution for them, however, was simple, as they had been stunned by the gas.
Their was a great cheer from the Fire Bringers, and they opened fire, pounding their bullets into other Insects.
Meanwhile, Tentacon sprayed more acid at Komodogater, but the crocodile dodged, and sliced through Tentacon, spraying green blood, which matched the gas, spilling onto the ground. Komodogater rammed his head at Tentacon, and flipped the Octopus over his back, before blasting the abomination with a spurt of electricity. The Metallibugs had been defeated, and Komodogater and Gillas were gaining the upper hand. The tide was turning.
Gillas and Mocerba charged at each other, with Mocerba taking a slice with its saw hands. Gillas dodged the attack and began to claw furiously, ripping up Mocerba. The two-headed dinosaur fired green lasers, but Gillas shot Solar Flame at one head, totally incinerating it. As the two grappled, Gillas bit into the other throat and injected the now-enhanced venom. Mocerba went limp and fell to the ground, and slowly passed away into the darkness of death.
Tentacon got back up, screaming in rage. Its threw its many long Tentacles at Komodogater, which now numbered hundreds, and dragged the croc to the ground. But Komodogater would not go down, and instead wriggled free. He extended his elbow blades and leaped onto Tentacon, slicing with his teeth, claws, stinger and blades. Green blood went everywhere as Komodogater snarled and slashed, ripping up the Octopus. It finally managed to push Komodogater off, and as it got up, it revealed a gruesome sight. Blood leaked from hundreds of wounds, ripped off tentacles had only half grown in, creating many awkward stumps, and the monsters face was so ripped up it was no longer recognizable. Tentacon roared one last challenge, and Komodogater charged his electrical beam.
He let it loose from his blood soaked jaws, and the powerful beam slammed into Tentacon. Instantly, the torso of the Octopus exploded in a horrendous flame, with millions of pieces of rubbery metallic flesh went flying everywhere. All that was left was the two legs, which stood for a moment, smoke rising from them, then fell forward, falling in a very stiff manner. Komodogater roared in victory, and his roar was long and hard.
Catherine walked through the streets, littered with the corpses of the Metallibugs. Gillas and Komodogater had both left, leaving the carcasses behind and being just too weak to fight each other. She watched as soldiers and citizens recovered from the attack of the mysterious aliens. Finally she came upon Alfred, who was directing some soldiers. When Alfred saw Catherine, he said "I'm glad you’re still alive. Weren't you with the rest in Ukania Tower, however?"
"It's a long story, sir" said Catherine.
"It's mostly just killing the few left now" said Alfred. "The few surviving bugs are being exterminated, and we're hoping to get the city back on its feet as fast as we can. We can be thankful the whole city wasn't destroyed like Komodogater's previous attack."
"Excuse me sir", said Catherine, "but what will be happening with the Plain Warriors, exactly?"
Alfred laughed and said "I was able to persuade the mayor of San Francisco to house them in good old Alcatraz." He stopped laughing and said "just so you know, I don't blame you."
Catherine looked puzzled. "In hiring them" said Alfred. "We were in desperate need, and we required extra help. It cost lives, but things could have been worse. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go and help mop up the last bits of metal." And Alfred walked away, while Catherine thought about what he had said.
Alfred sneezed and went to find Gregory. He found the general sitting on a piece of fallen rubble, Colonel Montage and Reynolds sitting beside him.
"Evenin' sir" Lambert said, wiping blood off his nose. "And how are you this find day?"
"Status report General" Alfred said.
"We've sent Soldiers searching for any surviving Metallibugs." Reynolds said before Gregory could reply. "We also have a bunch of search helicopters scanning the city. If their there, we'll find him sir." There was an air of respect towards Alfred in his tone, and amused, Alfred went to find Stanley.
Stanley and Emily were sitting next to a Metallibug corpse. They kept on poking with sticks, Stanley muttering gibberish under his breath.
"Hanson, Lent, are you doing?" Alfred inquired.
"Good sir, good," Stanley said impatiently, not bothering to look up from the insect. "Such amazing creatures" he said. Apparently having enough, Stanley looked up at Alfred and brushed dirt of his sleeve.
"Well sir, were back to square one with Komodogater. Again. How about that? Thought we were professionals!"
"I shouldn't say so Stanley" Alfred said, beaming. "With our new project, Komodogater better hide, because next time he surfaces, we'll be ready for him. And this time, I assure you we will win."
"Glad to hear it" Stanley replied.
"Sir, should we tell the MDF about our plans?" Emily asked. "They might not like them if they find out about it after we've finished."
"Oh, I'm sure they would be. You know how these scientists are: so ethical." Alfred laughed at his own joke. "But I don't think we should tell them. Besides, even if they don't like it, I'm sure they'd agree it’s necessary in killing Komodogater."
A huge squadron of troop carrier helicopters landed in the middle of the streets, blowing up dust with their propellers. Soldiers piled in, eager to get home, and Alfred got in one too. Some soldiers would stay to clean up, but for him, it was time to go home.
Catherine finally found Jim looking for her in the streets. When the two walked up to each other, neither of them said a word. They looked deep into each other's eyes; a silent conversation that only they understood. Jim finally said "we're going to be leaving Ukania." He sighed and said "we'll be headed back to our base in Seattle for the time being. Until Ukania is back up and running again, we'll have to work more separately. The chopper is on the way." And sure enough, the chopper was seen overhead, and the machine touched down. Both climbed in, and they left. No formal goodbye, due to the chaos. Both went into the horizon, leaving the city behind.
