Mini Biography
Yoshio Tsuchiya has starred in many Godzilla films including Godzilla Raids Again, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Son of Godzilla, Destroy All Monsters, and Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah
Yoshio Tsuchiya was born on May 18, 1927 in Yamanashi, Japan. His film career got a big boost when he debuted in Seven Samurai (1954). In order to learn acting technique from Kurosawa, Mr. Tsuchiya actually took up residence at the director’s home during filming of the feature. His main roles in special effects films have typically been that of an alien leader (alien commander in The Mysterians, Controller of Planet X in Godzilla vs. Monster Zero) or a tragic figure taken over by outside forces (The Human Vapor, Iwamura of Battle in Outer Space, Dr. Otani in Destroy All Monsters). He also has appeared in other special effects films such as Varan, Matango, Frankenstein Conquers the World, Yog - Monster From Space, and many other films. Tsuchiya takes credit for suggesting to Eiji Tsuburaya that Godzilla perform the infamous ‘jumping shie’ dance on Planet X after the defeat of King Ghidorah in Monster Zero, thinking it would give the monster character and increase its audience appeal.
