Introduction:
This story takes place after another story called The Hydra of Dr. Lerna, in which Dr. Lerna's plan for a daikaiju museum in Tyrantis's Revenge were realized. Also, the thoughts of Tyrantis and the other monsters, though put into sentences for the reader's better comprehension, actually appear in mental pictures and feelings since monsters don't speak English and thus can't think in it.
It had been six months since the Hydra incident, in which four giant snakes that were originally going to be used as anti-daikaiju weapons had escaped. Dr. Lerna had been working on two new weapons when J.C. Clark rushed into his office.
"Drop everything, Lerna!" J.C. exclaimed. "I've got a project that'll solve our problems forever!"
"What?" Dr. Lerna asked.
"Come with me and I'll show you."
Lerna stared in amazement. There, in the most private area of the San Francisco Daikaiju museum, was the body of the first Tyrantis. It's scales, once a beautiful green, had turned gray blue. Its eyes were dulled, but still filled with a savage intellect. Lerna realized that the Omega Virus G was still at work, for foam flowed from the creature's mouth. The suffering must have been immense. He seemed to have been placed in some sort metal vest, and instead of legs made of flesh, they were metal. Two huge guns were placed over the legs.
"You see, a couple of years ago we hired these guys over here," J.C. said as he pointed to the many scientists working around Tyrantis, "to build some weapons for the army. Since then they made schematics for tanks, airplanes, even giant robots."
"Giant robots?" Dr. Lerna scoffed. The idea was preposterous.
"Yeah. They're kind of child prodigies. So anyway, we asked them to help make an anti-Tyrantis weapon. They asked me, 'what kind of weapon could defeat Tyrantis?' and I said, 'well how about a robot Tyrantis?'" J.C. Clark explained.
"And what does this have to do with me?" Dr. Lerna asked. "Robotics is not my department."
"I'm getting to that! And since a completely metal Tyrantis would be too top heavy, we decided to make a cyborg. They've made a life support machine designed to destroy Omega Virus G, which would allow MechaTyrantis here to live again. Then we just put a get a pilot into the cockpit, and viola! A supreme anti-monster weapon. Don't you see? You don't have to make any more monsters!"
At that moment, the General walked in. "Negative, Mr. Clark. Though we are sure that MechaTyrantis will be more than an effective weapon, we need all the firepower we can get. Rattler, Yellowback, and Sucruliju Gigante are also at large. Those snakes, in addition to the monster army that devastated this fair city, are a threat more than worthy of MechaTyrantis. Dr. Lerna will make need to make more monsters."
"Correction, General." Dr. Lerna cut in. "I have them made. They are sure to be formidable."
"Great! Show us."
Chapter 2: Snarling Gator, Psychic Dragon
The men entered Dr. Lerna's breeding lab, where the largest daikaiju database was held. In it there were reports on every giant monster incident on record, making the laboratory the most advance Kaijuology museum on the planet. Even the Japanese, who faced the majority of these cases, were envious of the institute.
Two of the four tanks in the building had residents. One of them held a gigantic crocodile, about 100 meters long, 30 meters high. The other held a beast that could only be described as a dragon, for it fitted no known groups of reptiles.
"Gentlemen, I want to show you the future of Daikaiju defense." Lerna stated with a grin. "In these tanks we have the ultimate shields against all giant monster attacks. To my right you will see King Croc, the giant crocodile."
"Why a crocodile? Why not a tiger or a shark or something?" J.C. asked. Mr. Clark was very, very afraid of crocodiles.
"Simple, Mr. Clark. Crocodiles are great at fighting on both land and water, giving them a distinct advantage against land based creatures like Tyrantis." Lerna explained this while holding back his laughter. He knew of J.C.'s fear of crocodiles, and because of his loathing for the man, Lerna decided to make a crocodile monster. "Our second weapon is even more impressive. Gentlemen, meet Kraydi. Say hello, Kraydi."
"Hello humans" burst into the minds of every person in the room. The yellow "dragon" was looking at them. Some were frightened, though most felt oddly comfortable.
J.C. was one of the scared ones. "What the hell is happening?" he screamed at Lerna.
"I'm talking to you through telepathy. Don't be afraid."
Lerna smiled again. "Kraydi is psychic. He can use telepathy and telekinesis."
"How? How did you do this?" Asked the general.
"The same way I made Hydra." Lerna replied. "I simply combined the genes of a couple different snakes, lizards, and crocodiles. Then I used the strand of Omega Virus D version 3.0, making Omega Virus D version 4.0, which enhances the already powerful regeneration and brain use genes in OVD to make a more powerful, and much more intelligent creature. Thus, we have a psychic beast capable of fighting on Tyrantis's, and maybe even Hydra's level."
"Soon we'll have three powerful weapons. Perhaps this time Tyrantis will die." J.C. laughed maniacally.
Chapter 3: A Monster’s Wrath
It was officially announced that Hydra was dead. That was only partially true. The hydra that attacked Los Angeles was dead, but from that serpent many heads were cut. Twenty-seven giant snakes were now hiding in the Rocky Mountains, including the center head of the original Hydra. The process of regenerating an adult body was easier for the center head, for he already had the "crown" formation on his head. It had taken him one day to mature completely, where as the others were still developing at a slow pace.
Hydra, however, had no knowledge of his brethren. He was busy planning his revenge. Revenge for his brothers, his fellow heads. He had to take his battle back home, to where it all began.
San Fransisco.
Hydra was not the only one plotting for revenge that night. Deep in the San Francisco Kaijuology Museum, MechaTyrantis stirred. His legs may have been unable to move, but his head wasn't. MechaTyrantis growled, unable to muster the strength to roar. He had finally woken up, and was confused by his surroundings. The last time he had been awake, he remembered being in a place full of strangely shaped giant rocks, with hundreds of tiny screaming creatures all around him. He remembered a sharp pain in his neck, as though it had been stabbed. Other than that, he remembered no pain.
However, now it seemed pain was all he could feel. Sharp pain from his arms, feet, and every other part of his body. His breathing, though far more efficient because of his new mechanical lungs, felt strange. His mechanical heart also felt uncomfortable. He no longer desired to eat, a feeling that was even worse that his other pains. Everything felt cold to him, cold and unfeeling. Like metal. How had this happened? Why didn't his family come to help?
MechaTyrantis snarled again. His family. They had abandoned him; they had allowed him to be put into this position. MechaTyrantis vowed that, should he ever escape, he would make them pay. The idea of them made him so mad that he thought the fire would once again erupt from his mouth. In fact, he wanted for it to do just that. MechaTyrantis waited for the fire, but to his disappointment nothing came. He tried again, using every bit of anger he could find, but nothing came out. MechaTyrantis howled in frustration. He would make them pay. He would make them all pay.
Chapter 4: Taking the Fight to the Monsters
Lerna smiled. Today was the big day for him and his projects. He didn't like calling them that. They were more like friends to Lerna, but he wanted to get used to calling them "projects". If he let his friendship with the monsters slip out, people would call him nuts.
The monster named Kraydi was not nervous or excited in any way. He had been preparing for this day for a long time. He remembered Dr. Lerna's thoughts on Tyrantis, how it was intelligent. Perhaps they could find a reasonable solution. From what Lerna had told Kraydi, there were only two attacks. Of those attacks, one was instigated by human encounters. In Kraydi's mind, the monster attacks were the fault of mankind, not Tyrantis and his kin.
The roof of Kraydi and King Croc's tank opened. Kraydi raised his fellow monster with telekinesis, and in an instant they were off.
It was a pleasant day on the island of dinosaurs. The sun was shining, the air was warm but not hot, and, best of all, a new whale carcass had washed up on the shore. The monsters hadn't eaten in weeks, so the corpse was a welcome guest.
Tyrantis and Spinalsaur were already feasting when Kraydi and King Croc arrived. Spinalsaur looked up at them and snarled.
"Today is my lucky day." he thought. "Looks like this whale isn't the only piece of meat I'll get to devour."
Spinalsaur lunged at Kraydi, who in turn psychically grabbed Spinalsaur. Kraydi pinned Spinalsaur to the ground without even moving, then entered his opponent's mind.
"I believe you're the one my father calls Spinalsaur." Kraydi chided. "It seems his presumptions were correct. You're intelligent and strong, but as great as those gifts are your rash actions and bad temper overpower them. If it weren't for that, you would be quite the formidable foe." Kraydi stopped when he saw Tyrantis. If the yellow titan's face was able to smile, it would have. "You must be Tyrantis. You won't believe how much I've wanted to talk to you."
Tyrantis heard Kraydi clearly, and thought hard on how to reply. He had never talked to something without using his voice, and it was difficult to do. Finally, after much deliberation, he replied "What are you?"
"A friend, if you take me as one. I have come to save the lives of you and your family, should you accept my help." Kraydi answered.
"You seem kind enough. But what could endanger my family? We are to powerful to be destroyed, and, to my knowledge, have no enemies. What force could threaten us?" Tyrantis asked.
"Oh, but you have. On your trip to what you call "the New World", you destroyed many lives, killing some and destroying the homes of others. You did not know it at the time, but you have killed thousands, maybe millions of lives." Kraydi responded.
Tyrantis was awestruck. He didn't know he had done this. The thought was terrible. Just thinking of how many he killed frightened him. "But.... but... we were just trying to get my baby back from the huge bird."
"Yes, I was told of that. I realize you had good intentions, but the friends and families of the ones you killed do not. They want vengeance, they want closure. They are scared of you. That's why I offer you a choice: either never leave this land again, or I will be forced to kill you." Kraydi said in the most calm, businesslike manner he could muster.
Tyrantis roared. "You mean to tell me that if I don't allow my family to try and find food, then we can all live a painful existence of starvation? Because if we stay here, that is all we have to look forward to. We are starving, we need food. But we are unable to obtain it! None of us wishes to resort to cannibalism, and yet none of us can capture the food that lies in the water! So we starve. Our only hope is the New World, and you deny us the right to go there? Who are you to challenge me, yellow one?"
"I am Kraydi, son of Dr. Lerna. I am the creation of the one who made your ancestors! That man is just one of the many small creatures that you might kill, should you return!" boomed Kraydi. "Now I can see that your family needs food, but there is none in the 'New World' that can sustain you."
"Then why hasn't my brother returned?" Tyrantis snarled.
"You're brother?" Kraydi responded. "You mean the other Tyrantis? He.... he is not alive. The little creatures.... killed him."
Tyrantis roared so loud that the ground shook. He charged Kraydi, knocking the dragon out of the sky. Kraydi fell hard on the ground, still stunned by the sudden change of events. It was at that moment that King Croc revealed himself, leaping from the water. The gargantuan crocodile closed on Tyrantis's throat, hissing in a fury. Kraydi caught his breath, and then psychicly separated the creatures.
"ENOUGH!" the dragon shouted. "This fighting will cease! We must discuss this problem like reasonab-"
Spinalsaur cut off Kraydi by biting his tail. The crocodile-like dinosaur began to rip and tear at Kraydi. The dragon snarled, and in a rage lifted the other three monsters and tossed them. After panting for a minute, Kraydi regained his senses and once again grabbed the monsters, pulling them back towards him.
"Sorry, but you were all so out of control." the dragon apologized. "I-"
Kraydi was once again interrupted, this time by the roar of another new arrival. The new monster let loose a familiar roar.
MechaTyrantis had arrived.
Chapter 5: Oh Brother, What Art Thou?
For a minute, Tyrantis didn't recognize his brother. The blue scales and metal armor made him almost unrecognizable. However, his smell gave him away. Tyrantis chirped cheerfully towards his brother, but MechaTyrantis didn't reply. Tyrantis chirped again, but the sudden movement of MechaTyrantis's hip guns was the only response.
Kraydi felt that something was wrong. By the third time Tyrantis chirped the inside of the barrels of the guns began to glow. Two electric balls of energy, each sparkling like thunderbolts, began to grow just outside the two barrels. When Tyrantis chirped a fourth time, the left gun released its energy blast, hitting Spinalsaur in the chest. The monster collapsed in pain as it began to regenerate its heart, lungs, and sternum.
Tyrantis was stunned. He chirped again, questioning his brother on his actions. MechaTyrantis lifted his head, looked at Tyrantis, and began to cackle. He lifted his right gun, aimed it at Tyrantis, and released another energy blast. Tyrantis ducked, escaping the shot. MechaTyrantis cackled some more, and began to rapidly fire energy balls. Tyrantis snarled and released his own fireballs, causing small midair explosions.
During the battle, one of the baby Tyrantises entered the area. MechaTyrantis spotted it, and began to charge up its guns once again. Using his right barrel he hit Tyrantis, and with his left barrel he aimed for the baby. Tyrantis roared in pain as he fell backwards, enraged that he couldn't save his baby. MechaTyrantis was just about to fire when Kraydi intervened. The dragon psychically lifted the baby off the ground, and with a flick of his wrist sent MechaTyrantis spinning out of control towards the ground.
MechaTyrantis roared, and began to charge Kraydi. Now it was King Croc's turn to intervene. The giant crocodile bit the cyborg's leg, waving its tiny legs in frustration. Tyrantis also joined the fray, biting his brother's robotic chest. Tyrantis's mouth began to glow red, and soon flame bursted out. In a huge explosion, all three monsters fell to the ground. MechaTyrantis was the first to get up, and with a final roar he began to fly back towards San Fransisco.
For now, the fight was over.
Chapter 6: Getting Answers
Kraydi was furious. Before the cyborg escaped, Kraydi had read its mind. The Tyrantis part of MechaTyrantis was in a hypnotic state during the battle, not awake and yet not asleep. Kraydi found out that it was actually a human controlling Tyrantis, the one his "father" Dr. Lerna hated most of all: J.C. Clark. The man had tried to kill, of all things, a child! A mere infant! Nothing could top form of malice in Kraydi's mind.
King Croc, Spinalsaur, and Tyrantis thought the exact same thing. The three monsters knew something had to be done. Every thought of keeping these creatures restricted to this island left his head. They were not the attackers, they the victims! But never again. Never. Though Spinalsaur was currently unable to fight, Tyrantis and the other two were.
Kraydi, using his psychic powers, lifted the other two off the ground. Tyrantis roared and, leading the charge, the three monsters floated towards San Francisco.
MechaTyrantis returned to the museum's back hangar. The seven scientists who made MechaTyrantis, using their SKELETON robots, fixed the cyborg dinosaur. As luck would have it, the replacement chest plate, complete with the life support system, was ready. When the job was done, MechaTyrantis flew out of the hangar for round two.
However, an enemy was already waiting for him outside. Right in the cyborg's path stood a huge seven headed snake. It was at least 80 meters tall, 300 meters long. The center head was somewhat like a cobra's, only it had a yellow crest that looked a lot like a crown. On the right side of the center head was a red rattlesnake head and two green boa heads. The left side was like a mirror image of the right. It was quite obvious what the creature was. Hydra had returned.
Each head was hissing when the center head, without warning, spat venom at MechaTyrantis. The cyborg monster ducked, then fired a warning shot. Hydra ducked in response, and began to hiss again. MechaTyrantis roared, and for a long while the two monsters stood still.
J.C. Clark, the pilot of MechaTyrantis, was getting bored. He wanted to get to Tyrantis, and this darn snake was in his way. J.C. decided to end the conflict, and began to charge up MechaTyrantis's best weapon, the Triple Maser Laser. MechaTyrantis's mouth opened, and in the span of a minute a compact version of his hip guns formed in his mouth. The three guns began to glow, as balls of energy formed outside their barrels. Hydra, realizing that this was his chance, slithered towards MechaTyrantis and bit him with all seven of his heads. The snake was surprised to see that his venom was having no effect. The cyborg monster began to cackle once again.
MechaTyrantis was about to fire the Triple Maser Laser when Tyrantis fell on him. Kraydi and King Croc landed on the ground soon after. The three monsters snarled and hissed at the mechanical menace. Tyrantis trotted back to his new friends and bellowed a challenge to his cyborg double. MechaTyrantis, finally back on his feet, replied by firing all three lasers at the same time. Kraydi put up a mental shield, sending the blast straight into the air.
MechaTyrantis jumped into the air, roared, and then dived towards Tyrantis. Tyrantis hit the ground hard as MechaTyrantis soared back into the air, preparing for another dive. He dived again, this time at Kraydi. The blow KO'Ed the yellow dragon. MechaTyrantis cackled and took another dive at Tyrantis. This time, however, Hydra snagged MechaTyrantis's tail, dragging the cyborg to the ground. Tyrantis released a stream of fire breath on his mechanical double. Then King Croc entered the fray. The three monsters continued to beat the tar out of MechaTyrantis.
Then the Daikaiju Museum's hangar opened again. The seven SKELETON robots jumped out, each armed with large, sharp pieces of metal. Each uttered a mechanical cackle, raised their "swords", and dived into the fray. The robots freed MechaTyrantis, who grabbed Tyrantis in his mouth and flew back into the sky.
As the seven SKELETONs fought Hydra and King Croc, MechaTyrantis flew higher into the air. J.C. pressed a button, and the cyborg dropped Tyrantis. However, at that moment something unexpected happened. The hypnotized eyes of MechaTyrantis closed shut, then opened with a fiery, primal intellect. J.C. screamed as the cockpit/escape pod in MechaTyrantis's chest released without being ordered to.
"What's going on?!!" J.C. screamed. The control panel answered with Tyrantis's roar.
As Clark fell safely to the ground, MechaTyrantis swooped down and caught Tyrantis. The two crashed onto the ground.
As they got up, MechaTyrantis immediately charged his brother. The two fought once more, until Tyrantis's throat was in MechaTyrantis's mouth. The cyborg growled to his brother, then released him.
Tyrantis raced back to Hydra, King Croc, and Kraydi, who had successfully beaten the SKELETONs.
"What did he say?" asked Kraydi.
Tyrantis replied "He says that there isn't food here, and that all of us should go home. He says that the island is where all of us belong."
"Fair enough." Kraydi said. "Shall we go?"
Hydra sneaked into the conversation. "May I go with you?" it asked.
Kraydi relayed the message to Tyrantis, then back to Kraydi. 'Sure."
The four monsters left a battle scarred MechaTyrantis in San Francisco, never to return.
Or so they though.
