Ebirah 1966
Ebirah`66

Played by: Hiroshi Sekita

For 1966’s “Ebirah: Horror of the Deep” aka “Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster”, the gigantic shrimp Ebirah was created. Originally planned to face off against King Kong, Ebirah was instead pitted against the Monster King himself, Godzilla. This suit was great and very animalistic, an incredible representation of its animal origin. Ebirah sported a pair of eyes on the ends of long optical stocks, one large and one smaller pincher, six crustacean-like legs, a long tail, and a great looking carapace. Ebirah was incredibly detailed for what he was… not even a complete suit. Played by stuntman turned suit actor Hiroshi Sekita, Ebirah was portrayed via a waist-up costume worn by the suit actor during the water battles. When Godzilla would flip Ebirah out of the water or drag him underwater, a tail was attached to the suit, but it was still incredibly effective. All-in-all while not really representing much of a challenge to Godzilla, Ebirah does generate some great terror in “Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster”.
