In 1991, people all over Japan were witnessing a UFO flying over their nation and the newspapers were abuzz with information on the phenomenon. Soon it was determined that the UFO had landed and when the JSDF sent two helicopters to investigate, they mysteriously disappeared. In response, the JSDF sent the full brunt of its forces to investigate just what was going on and surrounded the huge UFO, but as they did, three holograms appeared to speak to the JSDF officials. These people were called the “Futurians,” a group of time travelers that arrived in Japan from the year 2204 in a large time machine they call their “Mothership.” The crew informed the Japanese government of the nation’s grave future; that in the year 2204, there is no Japan because Godzilla completely destroyed the nation. To stop this from happening, the Futurians, along with Teresawa, Miki Saegusa, and Professor Mazaki, go back to the year 1944 and teleport the dinosaur that would become Godzilla to the Bering Sea, thereby avoiding the nuclear bomb test ten years later and thus, the creation of Godzilla. However, before they left, the Futurians release three, bio-engineered creatures called Dorats onto the island. Ten years later the trio of creatures were exposed to the nuclear bomb test and fused together into the gigantic kaiju King Ghidorah. So when the crew returns to the present, they find out that Godzilla has indeed vanished, but a new, three-headed monster called King Ghidorah has appeared, is controlled by the Futurians, and is destroying cities across Japan. Why? Because the Futurians are actually members of an organization called the “Earth Union,” a group that is unhappy with the balance of world power in the future, as Japan is the major superpower nation in 2204. So they devised a plan to come back in time to destroy Japan in the past so that it would not become so powerful in the future and by eliminating Godzilla, they eliminated Japan’s greatest defense, and created a monster that they could control in King Ghidorah.
So once Emi discovers what the other Futurians are up to, she secretly reprograms Android M11 to help her in her quest and also warns Terasawa while at the same time, it is revealed that Godzilla was mutated anyway by a nuclear accident in the 1970s as well as grew more powerful by attacking and absorbing a nuclear submarine recently. Godzilla heads for Japan and battles King Ghidorah while Emi, Teresawa, and M11 perform a raid on the Futurian’s Mothership, ending the Futurians control over King Ghidorah and allowing Godzilla to defeat his three-headed foe. The three then escape on the Futurian’s Time Shuttle and teleport the Mothership in front of Godzilla as they are trying to escape. Seeing this, Godzilla blasted the Mothership with his radioactive heat ray and destroyed it, and the evil Futurians inside, ending their evil plans once and for all.
