When Daiei decided to revive Gamera for his 30th Anniversary, 1995’s “Gamera: Guardian of the Universe”, under the helm of director Shusuke Kaneko, Gamera took on a whole new look and personality. No longer was he the protector of children, but the Guardian of the Universe. The suit stayed true to the classic Gamera look, while still updating it for the 1990s. Gamera's eyes remained big, but now gave more of an intelligent appearance, the shell looked more like that of a turtle, and the tusks seemed bigger as well. Gamera's feet seemed much larger and more webbed, the whole body really gave off more of a bulky appearance. Gamera also now had retractable claws in his elbows. This time the suit was acted out very well and looked great on screen.
