First appearing in the 1967 film “Son of Godzilla”, the three Kamakiras, along with Kumonga, were definitely the highlights of the film. Being excellently made to closely resemble their insect inspirations, the Kamakiras looked incredible. Kamakiras was 100% performed by marionettes that were controlled with dozens of overhead wires manipulated by large teams of puppeteers working in unison. They controlled the giant mantises from a platform mounted over the stage and took direction as they motioned the insect kaiju as they battled Godzilla or attacked the humans.
