The new version of Kameba for the 2003 film “Godzilla X Mothra X MechaGodzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.” came as a surprise to most fans after not seeing hide nor shell of the giant turtle for over 30 years. Although not actually played by an actor in a suit, the monster was actually a large model that was beautifully integrated into live-action shots by the special effects team of GMM. Overall, the new version of Kameba still came off looking very cool as just a model. The model of Kameba looked basically just like the 1970's version of the giant turtle, just vamped up for the new millennium, much like Gamera was. The major difference is that the color of the skin and shell had changed to a darker, almost black color.
