Akira Kubo is best known as Tetsui Teri, the inventor in Godzilla vs.
Monster Zero, Goro Maki, the reporter in Son of Godzilla, and
Katsuo Yamabe, the captain of the Moonlight SY-3 spaceship in Destroy All
Monsters. He also appeared in Gamera: Guardian of the Universe, Yog:
Monster from Space, and many other films. Mr. Kubo has been acting since he was 11 years old and hasn't even had any professional acting lessons. Since then, he has worked on films, television series, and even plays. In 1960, he even worked on 12 movies in one year! His most successful films, however, have been the 3 Godzilla movies he starred in.
He very much enjoyed working with Nick Adams (Astronaut Glenn) and Yoshio Tsuchiya (Controller of Planet X). He has said that Mr. Adams was a very outgoing man. He would do very funny things like disguise himself as James Cagney. When Mr. Adams left Japan, he even gave Mr. Kubo his suit as a gift. Mr. Kubo and Mr. Tsuchiya were very close friends, he even started playing the guitar because he was so inspired by how well Mr. Tsuchiya could play it, but he doesn't play anymore. Mr. Kubo also enjoyed working with director Ishiro Honda. He said Mr. Honda was a gentleman who never got angry and was always calm. Mr. Kubo got the part in Gamera: Guardian of the Universe because the director, Shusuke Kaneko, wanted to show a familiar face from the Godzilla series in one scene. Akira Kubo still works on films to this day and is still one of the best. |
