In 2004, Kumonga, along with several other Showa kaiju from the Godzilla series, returned and was revamped for Godzilla’s 50th anniversary film, Godzilla: Final Wars. Kumonga was made to closely resemble its original incarnation from back in the late 1960s. From the eight sword-like legs to the several bright blue eyes, Kumonga was the spitting image of the original version, but this time was much more colorful and no longer had tufts of hair on its leg joints. This time around Kumonga was again filmed mainly as a marionette, just like in 1967 and 1968, with dozens of overhead wires controlling the monster puppet as they were pulled in unison by puppeteers.
