| Invented in the early-mid 1960’s, the Maser Cannon (Type 66), was the best the JSDF had to offer in battling invading kaiju. These new weapons were able to fire an energy beam from the large cannon, inflicting pain on whatever kaiju they hit. However, these weapons were not heavily coated with armor, causing them to easily melt or even explode when struck by a kaiju beam weapon. Because of this, these weapons were used very little against attacking kaiju and after an eight year run, these machines were no longer produced. That is, until 1989, when the new Maser Cannons went into service to battle the new kaiju threats. | |
