Minilla, another kaiju on the long list of returning kaiju for Godzilla’s 50th Anniversary film in 2004, Godzilla: Final Wars, made his comeback with a very impressive new suit. Suit maker Shinichi Wakasa was especially proud of his work on this suit, with its extremely expressive face and body, which looked just like Minilla from back in the 1960s, but updated for the new millennium. The Son of Godzilla, played by Naoko Kamio, still featured his wide, now more expressive eyes, an upturned snout, a pot belly, and chubby thighs, which overall still resembled a cross between Godzilla and the Pillsbury Doughboy. In the end, however, while many people feel that Minilla should have been left out of the film, you cannot deny that the Minilla suit in the film was superb and some of Wakasa’s best work.
