The original Moguera from the movie “The Mysterians” was Toho’s first robotic kaiju and the film itself was the first kaiju film to be filmed in widescreen Tohoscope. The only kaiju in the film, Moguera, has a very interesting mechanical-animal design that works very well in making it look like something from another planet. With its glowing yellow eyes, drill nose, cone hands, and tread-like skin (or metal) texture, Moguera was a very interesting design. Even its colors were interesting: metallic gray, light blue, and gold. This suit would not have been as effective, however, with out the great performance of suit actor Haruo Nakajima and Eiji Tsuburaya’s special effects work.
