The brothers gargantuan, Sanda and Gaila, made their debut in the 1966 film, "War of the Gargantuas." In this film, a Japanese fishing boat is attacked by the giant octopus Oodako, who in turn is attacked and defeated by a giant green, human-like creature. The green monster sinks the ship and the crew swims for safety, only to be chased down and eaten by the monster. A single fisherman survives the attack and is rescued by the JSDF, to whom he tells the story of the attack, but they dismiss it as hysteria. However, the monster, simply dubbed the Green Gargantua emerges from the ocean once again, this time attacking the Haneda airport and devouring a woman before the sun comes out and chases him back to the sea. Realizing the fisherman was telling the truth, scientists and the JSDF alike turn to Dr. Stewart, who had captured and raised a similar creature several years earlier, which had escaped and since grown into a giant. However, this Brown Gargantua was a kind-natured monster, unlike the Green Gargantua, and had settled down within the remote Japanese mountain tops. Meanwhile, the Green Gargantua leaves his ocean home once again and travels inland in search of more food. The JSDF prepares an ambush and attacks the Green Gargantua with everything they’ve got, including the newly designed maser cannons, and manage to bring the monster to the brink of death. However, the Brown Gargantua suddenly emerges from the surrounding forest and rescues his “brother,” dragging him into the woods and to safety. After this, the two gargantuas are given actual names: the Green Gargantua is Gaila and the Brown Gargantua is Sanda. Sanda and Gaila hide out in the mountain forests for a while, but when Gaila’s eating habits become evident to Sanda, the Brown Gargantua becomes enraged and attacks Gaila. The two gargantuas battle all the way to downtown Tokyo and then out into the ocean, where both gargantuas were swallowed up by a volcanic eruption and perished.
Sanda, the Brown Gargantua, stood at a height of 30 meters and weighed 15,000 tons. Gaila, the Green Gargantua, was slightly smaller than his “brother,” he stood at a height of 25 meters and weighed 13,000 tons. Both kaiju, although different in appearance, had very similar fighting styles. Being totally devoid of long-range offensive weapons, the gargantuas relied heavily on their teeth, claws, and strength in battle. They also utilized their mammalian intelligence to figure out ways to attack their opponents, which was very effective.

FEBRUARY 2003
JET JAGUAR
The robotic kaiju Jet Jaguar made his debut in the 1973 film, "Godzilla vs. Megalon." In this film, inventor Goro Ibuki and his brother Rokuro built Jet Jaguar to aid them in their work, but agents of the undersea kingdom of Seatopia stole the robot in order to use him to guide their monster, Megalon, in his attack on the surface world. This was retribution against the humans for underground nuclear tests that had destroyed a third of their country already. Goro and Rokuro eventually were able to regain control of their robot, but not before Jet Jaguar had already lead Megalon close to Tokyo. So in order to combat the monster cockroach, the Ibuki’s sent Jet Jaguar to Ogasawara Island to get Godzilla to fight Megalon. The robot followed his orders, and Godzilla was on his way, all be it slowly. Jet Jaguar soon returned and displayed an amazing new power, the ability to program himself to increase is own size, in order to hold off Megalon until Godzilla could get there. Jet Jaguar was holding his own against the Seatopian Protector, until the space kaiju Gigan arrived from Nebula Space Hunter M to aid Megalon. The robotic kaiju was now in big trouble, but Godzilla soon arrived and together with Jet Jaguar, they were able to drive off Megalon and Gigan, saving Japan from its enemies. Jet Jaguar then returned to his normal size as Godzilla left and rejoined his inventors, where he remains to this day.
Jet Jaguar stands at a height of 50 meters and weighs 27,500 tons when he programs himself to kaiju-proportions. Now since Jet Jaguar is devoid of long-range offensive weapons, he relies heavily on his knowledge of the martial arts and his robotic brain in battle. Jet Jaguar is also able to fly at speeds up to Mach 3.5 and emit a bright light from his eyes.

MARCH 2003
GAMERA (Showa Version 1965-1971)
The Guardian of the Universe, or better known as the Friend of all Children at this time, Gamera, made his debut in the 1965 film, "Gamera." In this film, Gamera was a legendary ancient monster known to the people of the Arctic. When a Japanese research team was visiting a tribe of these people, unidentified planes attempted to escape when challenged by U.S. Air Force and one of the planes was shot down. The plane crashed into the ice below, detonating its load of nuclear missiles, which resulted in an atomic explosion and the revival of Gamera. Once freed, the giant turtle went on a rampage across Japan, but showing a certain kindness towards children. Later, Gamera was finally gotten rid of when the Japanese, Americans, and Soviets lured him to their base at Oshima and onto a steel platform, which was the center of a space project called the Z Plan. Soon it was revealed that the Z Plan was an enormous rocket and the platform Gamera was on closed around him, preventing the monster from escape and shooting him off to the planet Mars.
However, as the rocket headed towards Mars, it was struck a meteor and Gamera was freed from his prison. Quickly returning to Japan, Gamera attacked a hydroelectric plant to feed upon the flames and after demolishing the dam running the plant to put out the flames, disappeared into the night sky. With Gamera now gone, Japan thought it was safe, but not for long. From a fishing boat and fresh from being mutated by an infra-red ray, Barugon appeared, attacking the fishing dock before heading for Osaka and destroying the city. However, the heat of Barugon's rainbow ray brought Gamera to Osaka, and vicious battle ensued with Barugon winning it after freezing Gamera solid and then returning to his path of destruction. Gamera later thawed and instantly sought out and attacked Barugon, dragging the monster into a lake where he soon drowned.
After defeating Barugon, Gamera was labeled a hero and his attacks on man suddenly stopped all together. Then, a year later, the monster-bird Gyaos appeared and began devouring the people of Japan, Gamera soon appeared and attacked Gyaos. After many vicious and bloody battles between the two kaiju, Gamera won by dragging Gyaos into a volcano, destroying him. Not even invaders from the planet Viras could stop Gamera after he destroyed their ship before they could even begin their conquest of Earth. The aliens still went through with their plans, however, and took control of Gamera, sending the giant turtle on a rampage. However, Gamera soon broke free of their control and battled with a kaiju-sized Viras, but the Friend of all Children defeated him quickly.
Gamera's next battle took him to the hidden planet Tera where two children had been abducted by a Teran saucer and are attacked by the last surviving Terans and their monster Guiron. Gamera did battle with Guiron and with the help of the children, destroyed the terrible Teran watchdog once and for all. A statue removed from Wester Island and releasing the monster Jiger was Gamera's next battle, but the giant turtle eventually defeated her by throwing the statue itself into Jiger's skull, killing her. Gamera was last seen thwarting the invasion plot of the alien kaiju Zigra, roasting the alien dictator to a crisp at the end of their long battle.
During the Showa Gamera series, Gamera stood at a height of 60 meters tall and weighed 80 tons. Gamera usually favored his flame in his battles, baking his opponent with its fiery intensity. However, when it came to close-range combat, Gamera would utilize his teeth, tusks, claws, and quite often his extremely tough shell to take down his enemies. Gamera also had his ability to fly to aid him, being able to pull in his limbs and head and then take off into the sky using jet propulsion was a great help to the giant turtle in his battles. As well as his regenerative powers, which while much slower than Godzilla’s, were able to heal him over time so he could regain his full strength. Gamera would go into a long hiatus starting in the early 70’s, but would return in 1995 to protect the Earth in the Heisei Gamera Series.

APRIL 2003
GODZILLA JUNIOR
The history of Godzilla Junior began in the 1993 film, "Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II," where he made his debut as the 1.64 meter tall Baby Godzilla. In this film, a dinosaur egg is found on Adona Island in the Bering Sea and scientists soon transport it to a Kyoto research facility. The egg soon hatches and Baby Godzilla emerges, calling out for the other member of his species, Godzilla, and his "brother", Fire Rodan. Both kaiju respond to the call, doing battle with the UNGCC robot MechaGodzilla to come to the aid of Baby Godzilla. Fire Rodan perishes, but Godzilla destroys MechaGodzilla and with his newly adopted son, swims off into the Pacific Ocean.
A year later, Godzilla and Little Godzilla (what Baby Godzilla grew into), were located on Birth Island, where they were attacked by the evil SpaceGodzilla. Both Godzilla and Little Godzilla were defeated, and Little Godzilla imprisoned in a crystal cage, but is freed when Godzilla and MOGERA defeat SpaceGodzilla in Fukuoka. The next year, Little Godzilla matured into his semi-adult form, Godzilla Junior, when Godzilla's run-away radiation caused the radioactive deposits on Birth Island to detonate. Thought to have been killed when Birth Island was destroyed, Godzilla Junior was soon discovered swimming along the coast of Japan, heading back to his birthplace on Adona Island. However, he was detoured by psychics Meru and Miki Saegusa, who lead Godzilla Junior to Tokyo in an effort to lure Godzilla to Tokyo as well, hoping that Destroyah would kill him before Godzilla's body could reach 1200 degrees celcius and meltdown. Instead, Godzilla Junior ended up fighting a brief, but vicious battle with the Flying/Aggregate Destroyah, finally defeating the crustacean monster. However, the victory was short lived, for Destroyah soon returned in his final form and attacked, bringing Junior to the brink of death. Before he died, however, Godzilla defeated Destroyah and went into his meltdown, saturating Tokyo with radiation. Godzilla Junior then absorbed the fallout, reviving himself and maturing into a new Godzilla.
Godzilla Junior stands at a height of 40 meters and weighs 16,500 tons. The young kaiju is a very effective grappler, like his adoptive father, using his teeth, claws, and tail in battle. Also like his father, he has his super-regenerative powers to heal any wound instantly and his radioactive heat ray for devistating attacks. Junior also has an enormous fighting spirit, as show in his battle with the Aggregate Destroyah, he will not quit until the battle is won!
Check out this section in May, when the Kaiju of the Month will be... JIGER!
MAY 2003
JIGER
Jiger made her debut in the 1970 film, "Gamera vs. Jiger" or "Gamera vs. Monster X." In this film, the monster Jiger escaped her prison on Wester Island when an archaeological team removed the statue above her grave. Gamera soon arrived to fight Jiger, but the quadruped kaiju defeated the Friend of all Children, shooting saliva spears into his arms and legs. Jiger then flipped Gamera onto his back and headed for Japan to retrieve the stolen statue. Jiger finally located the statue and attacked, hurling the statue far out into the sea. Gamera returned to fight Jiger, but became infected with Jiger's egg, however, Gamera was healed by the Japanese, who also discovered Jiger's weakness, sonic waves (Titanosaurus?). The JSDF surrounded the sleeping Jiger with loud speakers, keeping her immobile with sonic waves, but when the Japanese revived Gamera, the speakers were affected and Jiger awakened. Gamera then retrieved the statue from the ocean floor and attacked Jiger, ramming the statue into her skull, killing Jiger once and for all. Gamera then took Jiger's body back to its resting-place on Wester Island.
Jiger was 80 meters long and weighed 200 tons. Jiger was a very vicious fighter, using all of her weapons very effectively in battle. Jiger heavily favored her energy spears and skeletonizing ray in combat, but when her foes got to close, she would rip into them with tooth and claw, not to mention her sharp horns. Her deadliest weapon was her ability to impregnate her opponents with a parasite, her offspring, with a swipe of her razor-sharp tail.
Check out this section in June, when the Kaiju of the Month will be... GODZILLA (1984-1995)!
JUNE 2003
GODZILLA 1984-1995
The Heisei version of Godzilla made his debut in 1984 in the film, "The Return of Godzilla." In this film, Godzilla returned thirty years after first attacking Tokyo in 1954, appearing in the Bering Sea, bigger and more powerful than before. After his first appearance, Godzilla soon attacks a nuclear power plant on the coastline of Japan in order to feed off the radiation. However, the radiation does not satisfy him for long and soon Godzilla goes on a rampage in Tokyo, destroying the city once again, just like he did back in 1954. However, Japan deploys its latest weapon, the Super X, to battle Godzilla and temporarily defeats the Monster king with its cadmium missiles. However, Godzilla was revived by the atmospheric detonation of a Soviet nuclear missile sent to destroy him by the Russians. Once revived, Godzilla instantly attacked the damaged Super X and destroy it, but was suddenly compelled to leave Japan and head for Oshima Island by the effects of Professor Hayashida's sonic transmitter. The transmitter lured Godzilla all the way to the crater of Mt. Mihara on Oshima Island and explosives at the rim of the volcano send Godzilla crashing down into the heart of the volcano.
Godzilla remained trapped in Mt. Mihara until 1989, when terrorists of the BioMajor Corporation freed the King of the Monsters with a second explosion, creating a path for Godzilla to follow out of the volcano. Godzilla immediately traveled toward Lake Ashino, sensing the presence of another creature like himself, his clone, Biollante. After a brief battle with Biollante, Godzilla seemingly killed the plant monster and continued on to Osaka, attacking the city and destroying the new Super X2 while he was at it. However, during his attack, Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria is fired into Godzilla's body, but his body temperature was too low for the bacteria to work. So the JSDF lures Godzilla to the Wakasa plain where they have set up a Thunder Control System in order to try and raise Godzilla's temperature so the bacteria can take effect. At the same time, spores rain down from the sky and form into a new, more powerful Biollante. The two kaiju get into another battle, more vicious than before, but Godzilla eventually gains the upper hand with a point-blank blast of his radioactive heat ray right into Biollante's mouth. However, the ANEB suddenly begins to take effect and Godzilla staggers off into the ocean and swims away as Biollante disintegrates into the sky.
Two years later, travelers from the future (Futurians) used one of their time machines to transport the Godzillasaurus on Lagos Island to the Bering Sea, thereby avoiding the atomic test that would have transformed him into Godzilla. However, the site that they chose to transport the Godzillasaurus to was also the site of a Soviet nuclear submarine accident and modern radiation of the sunken ship mutated the dinosaur into an even more powerful and much larger Godzilla. Godzilla soon set foot on the Japanese mainland and was quickly confronted by the Futurians' bio-engineered kaiju, King Ghidorah. Godzilla took out the three-headed monster, severing his middle head in the battle before making his way toward Tokyo, destroying the city of Sapporo along the way. However, Emi Kano (good Futurian) returned to the future and revived the remains of King Ghidorah as Mecha-King Ghidorah, sending the cyborg kaiju to stop Godzilla from destroying the city. Mecha-King Ghidorah succeeded in this, but was finished off by a blast of Godzilla's radioactive heat ray as he flew the Monster King out to sea, sending both kaiju crashing into the Pacific Ocean.
During the next few years, Godzilla returned to Japan many times, battling many other monsters during this time such as Mothra, Battra, Fire Rodan, and Space Godzilla each having their own conflicts with Godzilla. During this time, the UNGCC was founded to try and end to Godzilla's attacks, sending their own robotic kaiju, MechaGodzilla, Garuda, and MOGERA to attack the King of the Monsters, but Godzilla always managed to overcome the odds and defeat his opponents. However, in 1995, Godzilla met his end when his nuclear reactor-heart malfunctioned, causing his own nuclear energies to go out of control. His radiation eventually causing the uranium deposits on Birth Island to detonate, destroying the island and mutating Little Godzilla into Godzilla Junior. Godzilla, in a blind rage due to the pain he was experiencing, attacked Hong Kong, his body glowing and skin steaming as his radioactivity ran wild, slowly approaching meltdown. The JSDF and UNGCC tried many tactics to try and prevent Godzilla's meltdown, but at the same time, crustacean creatures which were aroused by the Oxygen Destroyer that seemingly killed Godzilla back in 1954, were attacking downtown Tokyo. It was decided to lure Godzilla to Tokyo so that the Destroyah-creatures would kill him before his body reached 1200 degrees Celsius, when his body would go into meltdown. In order to do this, psychics Miki Saegusa and Meru used their ability to get Godzilla Junior, who was heading to Adona Island, to Tokyo and Godzilla followed. Junior battled Destroyah and defeated him in his crab form, but Destroyah them merged into the huge, final-form Destroyah. Destroyah instantly attacked Godzilla Junior, taking him into the sky and dropping him onto the Haneda airport, seemingly killing the young kaiju. Then, Destroyah attacked Godzilla, eager for revenge on the vile kaiju who killed his friend. The battle was long and vicious, but in the end Godzilla's anger and power with the addition of the Super X3 put an end to Destroyah. However, once Destroyah was killed, Godzilla's body began its meltdown, ultimately turning the King of the Monsters into a puddle of slime as the radiation from his body sprayed into the air, threatening the people of Tokyo with certain destruction. But suddenly, the radiation levels began to plummet rapidly and Godzilla Junior arose from the ruins of Haneda Airport, having absorbed the radiation from Godzilla and becoming an adult Godzilla, becoming the new Godzilla, King of the Monsters.
During the Heisei series, Godzilla had two different stats. From 1984 - 1989 he stood at a height of 80 meters tall and weighed 55,000 tons. Then, in 1991 when the Futurians tried to eliminate Godzilla by changing history, Godzilla was recreated with modern nuclear weapons, growing to a height of 100 meters and a weight of 66,000 tons. In these days, instead of relying on his fists and brute strength to win battles, Godzilla heavily favored his radioactive heat ray, blasting his opponents and buildings unrelentlessly. However, the Monster King had no problem with close range combat, tearing into his opponents with tooth, claw, tail, and a few interesting slam attacks. As always he had his super regenerative powers to keep him going, but this time aroung the King of the Monsters had a new, very powerful weapon called the nuclear pulse. When in a tight spot or when he became mad enough, Godzilla would summon up a large amount of nuclear energy and suddenly release it, flooring any enemy or building unfortunate enough to be close to Godzilla. After the Heisei Series, Godzilla would go on hiatus for another few years and return in 1999 to begin what I call the Alternate Reality Series, which continues to this day.
Check out this section in July, when the Kaiju of the Month will be... GABARA!
JULY 2003
GABARA
Gabara made his debut in the 1969 film, "Godzilla's Revenge." In this film, a boy named Ichiro dreams that he visits the kaiju on Ogasawara Island, but a new monster, Gabara, appears and attacks him and Minilla. Gabara was much like a bully by the same name who tortured Ichiro back in Japan, always tormenting and bullying weaker monsters, especially Minilla. Godzilla had enough of this and forced his adopted son to fight his own battles, training Minilla to face Gabara. Minilla defeated his bully with the help of Ichiro, but the humiliated Gabara then made the mistake of attacking Godzilla himself. Godzilla, enraged by the fact that a weak kaiju like Gabara would attack him, made short work of the dream monster, sending Gabara retreating into the jungle of Ogasawara Island, never to be seen in the dream world, or the real world again.
Gabara stands at a height of 58 meters and weighs 25,300 tons (if he exists outside of Ichiro’s dream world that is). While normally not one to take on kaiju his own size, Gabara likes to pick on younger, more defenseless kaiju like Minilla. However, if confronted by an adult kaiju and he doesn’t have the opportunity to make a break for it, Gabara will battle ferociously. He uses his claws and teeth to rip into his opponent and will also employ his electric bolts, which he generates from the horns on his head, to shock his opponent into submission.
Check out this section in August, when the Kaiju of the Month will be... DEATH GHIDORAH!
AUGUST 2003
DEATH GHIDORAH
Death Ghidorah made his debut in the 1996 film, "The Rebirth of Mothra." In this film, Belvera, the evil Elias, released Death Ghidorah from his ancient prison after a lumber crew uncovered the monster's prison and removed the seal, which imprisoned him. However, Belvera's sisters soon arrived and summoned Mothra to do battle with the three-headed kaiju, but Mothra couldn't defeat Death Ghidorah. Sensing her distress, the unborn Mothra larva emerged from its egg and came to its mother's aid, but Death Ghidorah still defeated both Mothras. Even this was not enough, and Death Ghidorah still managed to drive both of his enemies away. The adult Mothra carried her larva to safety before dying from her battle wounds, but the Mothra larva sought out an ancient, powerful tree and by using its energy, transformed into an even more powerful adult Mothra. The new Mothra once again engaged Death Ghidorah in battle, this time defeating him and once again imprisoning him within his ancient mountain prison, never to be seen again.
Death Ghidorah stands at 60 meters tall, is 100 meters long, weighs 75,000 tons, and has a wingspan of 80 meters. Death Ghidorah is able to fly at Mach 3 and is able to launch devastating attacks from the air with his long-range offensive weapons. Using his energy bolts and flame, he is able to inflict a lot of damage on his opponents or a city very quickly. These abilities also come in handy for close-range combat, but then he also uses his three sets of jaws and his claws to tear into his foe until they are finished.
Check out this section in September, when the Kaiju of the Month will be... MOTHRA LEO!
SEPTEMBER 2003
MOTHRA LEO
Mothra Leo made her debut in the 1996 film, "The Rebirth of Mothra." In this film, the new Mothra, dubbed Mothra Leo, hatched from an egg on Infant Island when she sensed her mother’s distress as the monster Death Ghidorah relentlessly attacked her (the mother Mothra being the one battled Godzilla alongside Battra in 1992). The larva quickly swam to Hokkaido, where the battle was taking place, and proceeded to assist her mother in the fight, but in the end, the adult Mothra was forced to retreat with her larva child in tow. Already old and now mortally wounded by Death Ghidorah, the elder Mothra deposited her child into the sea and sank beneath the waves. The young Mothra larva watched her mother disappear beneath the waves and then swam to an island where she created a cocoon on an ancient cherry tree. She later emerged from the cocoon as a more powerful adult form that was connected to the very Earth itself. Mothra Leo then returned to Hokkaido and attacked the rampaging Death Ghidorah, eventually defeating the evil monster and resealing him in his ancient prison.
A year after battling and defeating Death Ghidorah, Mothra Leo returned to Infant Island where she remained until she was summoned by the Elias to battle the powerful sea monster Dagarah as he was attacking one of the Okinawan islands. Mothra Leo obeys and soon arrives, battling Dagarah and after a long and brutal battle, the sea monster defeated Mothra, covering her with the Berum starfish, which drain her energy and Mothra Leo crashes into the roof of the resurrected ancient Mu temple. So in order to save Mothra Leo, the furry creature Gorgo, the treasure of Mu, sacrificed himself and Mothra Leo became Rainbow Mothra. Rainbow Mothra then engages Dagarah in battle once again and manages to overpower the sea monster, but he manages to retreat into the depths of the ocean. Unable to go in after Dagarah in her present form, Rainbow Mothra morphs into Aqua Mothra and pursues Dagarah underwater for the final battle, where the two battled ferociously. However, the tide of the battle was turned in Aqua Mothra’s favor when the sea moth split into hundreds of Fairy Aqua Mothra, which enter Dagarah’s body. The Fairy Aqua Mothra then attacked the Beram within the sea monster and finally destroyed the organ in his body, which created them, greatly injuring the sea monster and eventually defeating him. Aqua Mothra then returned to the surface of the ocean, where she returned to her Rainbow Mothra form and headed back to Infant Island.
Then, yet another year later, Rainbow Mothra was called upon by the Elias to put a stop to Super Dragon King Ghidorah’s attack on humanity. However, even Rainbow Mothra was unable to defeat the space kaiju and with the help of the Elias, traveled back in time to the late Cretaceous period to fight the adolescent version of Super Dragon King Ghidorah, Cretaceous King Ghidorah. Rainbow Mothra managed to defeat the space kaiju after a vicious battle by tossing the evil monster into the active Mount Fuji. The battle had also taken its toll on Rainbow Mothra and she fell to the ground as three ancient Mothra larvas emerged and cocooned the dying Mothra in a healing capsule that revitalized her and kept her safe until the year 1998. However, unknown to Rainbow Mothra, during the battle with Cretaceous King Ghidorah, one of the monster’s tails was severed and burrowed underground, later evolving and maturing into Super Dragon King Ghidorah anyway! The space kaiju emerged just one day later then he originally had and once again started his attack, but the cocoon containing Rainbow Mothra suddenly broke from the ground hatched to reveal a new form of Mothra, Armor Mothra. Armor Mothra was more than a match for Super Dragon King Ghidorah and was easily able to defeat the space kaiju and free the humans he had captured. Armor Mothra’s armor was then removed and the final form of Mothra Leo, Eternal Mothra, was revealed before she returned to Infant Island to rest.
Mothra Leo’s stats and powers changed quite a bit during her battles with Death Ghidorah, Dagarah, and Super Dragon King Ghidorah. At first, Mothra Leo was 24 meters long, had a wingspan of 38 meters, and weighed 10,500 tons. Her powers/abilities were the ability to fly at Mach 4, create windstorms with her wings, a beam pulser, and she could create a pressure field. When she became Rainbow Mothra her stats remained the same, but her abilities grew. She could now use her beam pulser, a cross heat laser rainbow, a sparkling pileload rainbow, a rainbow buster, and could transform into Aqua Mothra. Now Aqua Mothra was 24 meters long, had a wingspan of 30 meters, and weighed 9,500 tons. Aqua Mothra was able to swim up to 200 knots, use a beam pulser, an illusion mirage, and a sparkling pileload rainbow. Later, after transforming back, Rainbow Mothra would become Armor Mothra, who was 25 meters long, had a wingspan of 50 meters, and weighed 10,500 tons. Her powers now were the ability to fly at Mach 1.5, armor cross heat laser, armor wing cutter, and excel dash buster. Then, after defeating Super Dragon King Ghidorah with these abilities, Armor Mothra transformed into Mothra Leo’s final form, Eternal Mothra. Eternal Mothra is 25 meters long, weighs 10,500 tons, and has a wingspan of 50 meters. Her powers are unknown.

OCTOBER 2003
MECHANI-KONG
Mechani-Kong made his debut in the 1967 film, "King Kong Escapes." In this film, Mechani-Kong was both designed and built by the international criminal, Dr. Who, to mine the radioactive Element X from the Arctic underground, but the robotic ape failed his creator, the radiation of Element X damaging his controls. However, Dr. Who came up with another plan to abduct the real King Kong and using Mechani-Kong, hypnotize Kong to mine Element X instead. However, the combination of Kong’s mind and the cries of Nurse Susan Watson, who Kong had a liking for, were able to overcome the hypnotism and Kong escaped to Tokyo, with both Mechani-Kong and Dr. Who in hot pursuit. In Tokyo, King Kong and Mechani-Kong battled up the side of Tokyo Tower, both monsters getting their shots in on one another. In the end, an attack back on Dr. Who's ship crippled Mechani-Kong’s controls and turned the tide of battle in Kong's favor. The crippled Mechani-Kong then fell from the tower, crashing into the street below and shattering into thousands of pieces.
Mechani-Kong stood at a height of 25 meters and weighed 25,000 tons. While built to simply to mine Element X, Mechani-Kong was nonetheless forced into battle with King Kong by his creator, Dr. Who. In his brief battle with the giant ape, Mechani-Kong showed that he was an effective grappler. He was also able to employ his other abilities: mainly his hypnosis beam and his grenades that were attached to his waist. Unfortunately, none of this was strong enough to defeat Kong, and Mechani-Kong’s pieces were distributed out for Japanese scientists to study.

NOVEMBER 2003
FRANKENSTEIN
Toho's Frankenstein made his debut in the 1965 film, "Frankenstein Conquers the World." In this film, towards the end of World War II, Hitler’s Nazis captured and shipped the still living heart of the Frankenstein monster to their ally, Japan, in order to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Allied forces. Unfortunately, the heart was taken to a Hiroshima laboratory for study and was lost and seemingly destroyed when the United States dropped the atomic bomb on the city. However, ten years later, a wild boy was discovered near the ruins of Hiroshima, where scientists eventually captured and studied him, discovering that the lost heart of Frankenstein had actually regenerated a body for itself, this boy! Frankenstein was well fed by the scientists, and in response to the protein-rich food, began to grow incredibly fast, reaching a height of 20 meters in no time, forcing the scientists to incarcerate him in a cell. However, Frankenstein managed to escape his prison, his hand actually snapping off when his chains became too tight. Frankenstein then fled to the Japanese countryside, sending all of Japan into a panic and being blamed for the disappearance of both livestock and people. It was later discovered that the people had been eaten, but not by Frankenstein, they were devoured by a new, burrowing kaiju named Baragon, who had eluded detection for quite sometime. However, when the burrowing kaiju attacked one of the scientists who cared for Frankenstein, the human-like monster attacked him. A vicious battle ensued, ending when Frankenstein apparently killed Baragon by breaking his neck, but he didn’t have long to savor the victory, for the ground underneath him, which was already weakened by Baragon's burrowing, gave way and sent Frankenstein into the bowels of the Earth.
Frankenstein stood at a height of 20 meters and weighed 200 tons. Other than his obvious great strength from his size, Frankenstein really had no other abilities to use in battle other than his own teeth. However, he had sub-human intelligence, which greatly aided him in battle and allowed him to come up with strategies in battle. This, along with his slow regenerative powers, helped him defeat the monster Baragon before Frankenstein disappeared underground forever.
Check out this section in December, when the Kaiju of the Month will be... MANDA!
DECEMBER 2003
MANDA
Manda made his debut in the 1963 film, "Atragon." In this film, the great serpent god Manda was the protector of the undersea kingdom of Mu, a city that vanished beneath the ocean ages ago. However, when the Mu decided to try and regain their lost control over the Earth, an ex-Japanese naval captain sent out his super-submarine, Atragon, to attack the kingdom. This was the Mu’s greatest fear, so they sent Manda out after the super-sub, attacking the ship and wrapping it in his strong coils. Manda nearly succeeded in destroying the mighty battleship, but he was driven off by a powerful surge of electricity from Atragon’s hull. Atragon then used its Zero Cannon, a weapon that could send out beams of extreme cold, to freeze Mu’s protector, completely encasing him in ice against an undersea cliff. With Mu’s last line of defense out of the way, Atragon was easily able to destroy the empire and save the Earth. However, Manda apparently survived the effects of the Zero Cannon and the destruction of the Mu Empire, but apparently lost his distinctive horns and whiskers in the empire’s destruction for Manda became one of the ten monsters incarcerated on Ogasawara Island. When the Kilaaks attacked and took control of the monsters on the island, Manda was sent to the city of London and wrecked havoc on the great city until he was ordered to leave and join Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra in attacking Tokyo. Later, once Earth had broken the alien control over the monsters, Manda appeared at Mount Fuji during the final battle against King Ghidorah, but only as a spectator of the fight. After the battle, Manda returned along with the rest of the monsters to Ogasawara Island, where he has remained ever since.
The God of Mu, Manda, is 150 meters long and weights 33,000 tons. Devoid of long-range beam weapons, Manda relies on his crushing coils and jaws in battle, biting into his opponent, wrapping the entire length of his body around his foe, and the constricting himself, cutting off his enemy’s air supply. Also, while slow moving on land, Manda is a force to be reckoned with in the sea, being a very agile swimmer.
