KAMEBA

Kameba made his debut in the 1970 film, "Yog: Monster from Space." In this film, the body of the sea monster Gezora was taken over by an invading alien intelligence, known only as Yog. The alien force within the squid monster caused him to grow to gigantic size and then sent Gezora to attack the natives of the island where Yog’s spacecraft crashed. The giant squid terrorized the island for some time, but was finally driven away when the islanders and Japanese who came there fought back against Gezora with the monster’s weakness, fire. Severely injured by the attack, Gezora retreated into the ocean and sank beneath the waves. The Yog entity, realizing this body was dying, abandoned Gezora before seeking out a new host body. This didn’t take long, for soon Yog found a lobster and mutated it into the monster Ganime, directing the giant lobster back to Selga Island to destroy the humans that had defeated him, but Ganime was quickly destroyed when it was lured into a pit lined with explosives. However, once again the Yog entity was not harmed and it split to possess three creatures, a Japanese industrial spy on the island, a tortoise, and another lobster. The lobster transformed into another Ganime while the tortoise turned into Kameba, both monster being directed to attack the islanders once again. All looked lost for the islanders for a while, but the industrial spy was actually able to throw off the possession of Yog and released the island's bats, their high-pitched sonic squeaks hurting Yog and forcing Kameba and Ganime back. The bats sonic squeaks also interrupted Yog’s control over the monsters and Ganime and Kameba attacked one another. The battle soon moved to the island's volcano, where Ganime was able to throw Kameba in, but not before the giant tortoise succeeded in biting into Ganime, dragging him into the volcano as well. The heat of the molten lava killing both monsters and the Yog entity as well, ending its reign of terror forever, or so everyone thought...

Thought to have been destroyed 34 years prior to his reappearance, Kameba returned in 2003. Apparently surviving without the Yog entity infesting his body, Kameba had left Sergio Island and was living peacefully in the Pacific Ocean until one day in 2003, sometime after the battle between Godzilla and MechaGodzilla in 2002. While healing his battle wounds in the ocean depths, Godzilla unknowingly destroys Kameba's territory. Enraged by the destruction of his home, Kameba viciously attacks Godzilla, but ultimately it was a battle the mutated turtle could not win. Godzilla quickly defeated the much smaller Kameba, dealing him a mortal wound to the neck. Kameba fled the battle and Godzilla moved on, but a few days later, Kameba´s dead body washed ashore at Kujukuri Beach in Japan's Chiba-prefecture, revealing to the Japanese people that Godzilla had survived his battle with MechaGodzilla.

In the film "Yog: Monster from Space", Kameba stood at a height of 20 meters and weighed 19,000 tons. Being devoid of long-range offensive weapons (other than icy blood mist when wounded), Kameba relied heavily on his teeth and claws in battle, as well as his hard shell for protection. He could also employ his "extendo neck" to launch a quick, unexpected attack. Kameba was a vicious fighter as well as a good swimmer. In 2003 for "GMM: Tokyo S.O.S.", Kameba's stats apparently remained the same, although now he was devoid of his icy blood since the Yog entity no longer infested his body.

FEBRUARY 2004

GODZILLA
Millennium

The Millennium version of Godzilla made his debut in the 1999 film, "Godzilla 2000 Millennium." In this film it is explained that ever since Godzilla’s initial attack on Tokyo in 1954, almost fifty years ago, he had been lurking in the oceans off Japan, only emerging to attack human energy sources like electrical plants and nuclear power plants, which he also feeds off of. Meanwhile, the Japanese, while setting up devices in the underwater Ogasawara Trench that help them determine Godzilla’s location, they locate a huge, strange object in the depths of the ocean. The scientists then decide to raise the object to the surface, but soon the object, revealed to be of alien origin, begins to react to the sun’s energy. The UFO eventually takes off into the sky, heading straight for Tokai, Japan, where Godzilla has landed in order to attack a new nuclear power plant. Meanwhile, at Tokai, Godzilla is under attack by the JSDF’s new full-metal missiles, which hardly even phase the Monster king as he marches on to the plant. However, the UFO emerges from the clouds and scans Godzilla before attacking him, knocking him back into the ocean, but not before the Monster King blasted away some of the rock coating on the UFO with his heat ray, revealing the metal hull underneath. The next day, the UFO lands atop a news station and using tentacles that are invisible to the naked eye, began to extract information about the Earth and Godzilla from computers all over the world. While doing this, Godzilla emerges from Tokyo Bay and heads for the UFO, eager to exact his revenge upon the alien ship. However, using a new weapon, the UFO was able to bury Godzilla in building debris and using the invisible tentacles, absorbed some of Godzilla’s DNA and the Reorganizer G-1 cells along with it. Then, using the absorbed DNA, the formless alien entity created a body for itself, but Reorganizer G-1 would not merge right with the alien and it turned into the monster Oruga. Oruga quickly attacked Godzilla in an attempt to absorb the rest of the Monster King’s DNA in order to transform completely into Godzilla. The two monsters fought a long battle, neither able to gain the upper hand thanks to their incredible regeneration powers, but when Oruga opened his jaws wide in order to swallow Godzilla, the Monster King charged straight in, letting loose with a nuclear pulse that fried Oruga from within and turned the space kaiju into ashes.

The following year, Godzilla returned, but his history was changed. This time, since 1954, Godzilla has been a thorn in the side of Japan’s energy sources. Godzilla’s initial attack on Tokyo in 1954 was revenge for the nuclear bomb that mutated him, but ever since then, each of his attacks have targeted energy sources. In 1966, he attacked Japan’s first ever nuclear power plant, forcing Japan to give up on nuclear power and look for new sources of energy. The Japanese turned to solar, hydro, wind, and coal energy sources, but even that wasn’t enough to keep the country going. So in the early 90’s, Japan began to develop a way to use plasma energy, and they eventually succeeded. However, in 1995, Godzilla attacked again to destroy the plasma energy before disappearing into the ocean once again. Over the next six years, a group of scientists and defense personnel developed a research/military facility devoted to stopping Godzilla, their military group being called the G-Graspers. In their work, they also developed the Dimensional-Tide, a machine that would create a temporary black hole and suck Godzilla into another dimension. They test the weapon and it works perfectly, except for one little flaw, an alien egg comes through the hole into Earth’s dimension and soon ends up in the Tokyo sewer system, where it multiplies into hundreds of eggs which hatch into 2 meter insects called Meganuron. Soon the Meganuron go into metamorphosis and transform into Meganura, flying insects which fly to an island where Godzilla has been lured by the G-Graspers so they can use the Dimensional Tide. The Meganura attack Godzilla and drains away some of his energy as the Monster Kingswats at them like giant mosquitoes. Finally, the surviving Meganura head back to Tokyo and the Dimensional Tide is fired, but Godzilla escapes the black hole and heads for Tokyo as well, where the Meganura have dumped the energy they gathered into one large Meganuron, which transforms into Megaguirus. Godzilla soon arrives and battles Megaguirus in a long and vicious battle, with Megaguirus’ speed overcoming Godzilla for a while. However, the Monster King eventually learned Megaguirus’ attack pattern and was able to defeat the insect kaiju. The Dimensional Tide was then fired one final time and appeared to have sucked Godzilla into another dimension, but a few months later, Godzilla emerged from underground, having escaped the man-made weapon once again.

Two years later the Millennium Godzilla would return yet again, but this time with a new look and new history yet again! In 1954, the first Godzilla attacked the Japanese capital of Tokyo, totally destroying the great city. The JSDF tried everything humanly possible to destroy the monster, but in the end a chemical weapon known only as the "oxygen destroyer" was the one thing capable of stopping him. The oxygen destroyer killed Godzilla, his flesh/muscle disintegrated away leaving nothing but his skeleton, which sank to the bottom of Tokyo Bay. However, forty-five years later, in 1999, another Godzilla emerged from the ocean depths at Tateyama. The JSDF rushed to engage the Monster King as he walked onto the beach in the midst of a raging typhoon, attacking him with their Maser Tanks, also known as “Anti-Megalosaurus Units”. Godzilla was unfazed by the attack and quickly destroyed all forces that opposed him. Bellowing in victory, Godzilla marched further inland toward Tateyama and wreaked havoc on the city before returning to the ocean depths for another three years. In 2002, Godzilla returned once again, surfacing along Japan’s Kawasaki coast. However, this time Godzilla wasn’t confronted with the “Anti-Megalosaurus Units”, he was confronted by the newly built MechaGodzilla, which actually contained the DNA of the original 1954 Godzilla in its bio-computer system. The robotic kaiju quickly attacked Godzilla with everything it had as the Monster King bellowed in defiance at his new enemy. However, MechaGodzilla suddenly went haywire and Godzilla escaped back into the ocean. It seemed that Godzilla’s roar induced a flashback from the original 1954 Godzilla’s attack on Tokyo within the DNA computer and MechaGodzilla actually became the first Godzilla and laid waste to everything in site before its power ran out. Godzilla soon reappeared in Tokyo and began his assault on the city, but the reprogrammed and repaired MechaGodzilla soon flies in and the two kaiju engage in a fierce battle. The fight eventually winds up with MechaGodzilla flying in, grabbing Godzilla, carrying the King of the Monsters out to sea, and then detonates the Absolute Zero Cannon as both kaiju slam into the ocean. The water surrounding the two monster’s splashdown area instantly freezes solid and an eerie calmness fills the air. Then, the ice suddenly cracks open and Godzilla emerges, a large scar covering his chest from where the Absolute Zero Cannon detonated and froze his G-Cells. Roaring victoriously despite his wound, Godzilla swims away, leaving his damaged opponent behind.
One year later, Godzilla returned to Japan and shows up in Tokyo after battling and killing the giant turtle Kameba. The self-defense force quickly mobilizes to lead Godzilla into Shingawa to be ambushed by MechaGodzilla the newly repaired MechaGodzilla. Then the deity kaiju Mothra also shows up and a battle ensues. Who will fight against whom?

During the Alternate Reality or Millennium series, Godzilla stood at 55 meters tall and weighed 25,000 tons. In this series, Godzilla seemed to return to his roots in battle, using more physical attacks, laying into his opponents with tooth, claw, and tail. Now while he didn’t use his radioactive heat ray as much as in the Heisei series, the ray was still quite prominent in battle, usually delivering the final blow to his opponents. As always, Godzilla had his super regenerative powers and his fighting spirit to keep him going.

MARCH 2004

GAMERA (Heisei Version 1995-1999)

The Heisei version of the Guardian of the Universe, gamera, made his debut in the 1995 film, "Gamera: Guardian of the Universe." In this film, long, long ago, the biologically engineered monster Gamera was created by the highly advanced civilization of Atlantis as their final attempt to stop the rampage of their other biologically engineered monsters, the Gyaos. However, it was too late to save Atlantis, but nevertheless Gamera killed off all of the Gyaos active at the time before going into a long hibernation. In the year 1995, Gamera was rediscovered within a floating atoll covered with thousands of comma-shaped beads made from a strange metal. Meanwhile, three Gyaos were discovered on an island off the coast of Japan. The Gyaos made meals out of the islanders before heading for the mainland for more food. Gamera soon awoke and tracked down each of the Gyaos, destroying them one by one. Through one of the comma-shaped beads given to her as a gift, Asagi Kusanagi, a Japanese schoolgirl, formed a mental link with Gamera to help him fight the Gyaos. In the end, Gamera fought a viscous battle with the final Gyaos in Tokyo, finally killing the Shadow of Evil at an oil refinery. A year later in 1996, Gamera returned to combat the invasion of the alien insect Legion and his Soldier Legions. The battles against Legion were hard-fought and in the end, the Guardian of the Universe was forced to use Earth's mana to defeat Legion, absorbing some of the mana into his own body and destroy the space kaiju with a large destruction beam. However, Gamera’s use of Earth’s mana wasn’t without its downfall, resulting in a severe change in the Earth’s climate. These changes in the climate brought about the right conditions for the Gyaos eggs to hatch once again, but this time they began to hatch all over the world. Gamera fought the Gyaos on several different occasions, but now seemed less concerned with damage to humanity in his battles with the Shadow of Evil. Not only that, but the ancient Gyaos-hybrid kaiju dubbed Irys was awakened and sought to destroy the Guardian of the Universe. In the end, Gamera fought Irys in Kyoto, barely managing to defeat the tentacled monster. Badly injured and even missing his right hand, Gamera emerged from the destroyed Kyoto station into the burning streets of Kyoto to face the hundreds of Gyaos who were now flocking towards Japan.

During the Heisei Gamera series, Gamera stood at a height of 80 meters tall and weighed 120 tons. In battle, Gamera would typically use a wide range of physical attacks to weaken his opponents, and then finish them off with his plasma fireballs. However, when more extreme measures needed to be taken, Gamera would call upon the Earth’s Mana, to which he is connected, and use it to create new weapons like his chest beam or plasma fist. Gamera also had his ability to fly to aid him as well as his regenerative powers, which are much slower than Godzilla’s. No one really knows what happened to Gamera in his battle with the hundreds and hundreds of Gyaos, guess we’ll just have to wait and see if we get an answer one day.

APRIL 2004

GORGO

Gorgo made his/her debut in the 1961 film, "Gorgo." In this film, as a trawler sails through the North Atlantic, it becomes disabled due to a volcanic eruption. Sam and Joe, a couple of mariners and the men in charge, go to nearby Nara Island to seek help, only to find that the locals aren't very friendly. Then, over the course of the day, strange events begin to occur, such as the disappearance of a diver and the discovery of his partner, who apparently dies of fright. It is soon discovered that a huge sea monster has emerged from the volcanic eruption. The beast soon comes ashore that night, but is fought off by islanders with torches and rifles. The next morning, McCartin, the island's harbor-master, hires Joe and Sam to get rid of the monster in return for some gold coins. They do their job quickly and take Gorgo, as it is now known, back to England. Upon arriving in England, Joe and Sam make a business deal with Dorkin's Circus for Gorgo to make a ton of money. Meanwhile, back at Nara Island, another sea monster of the same species only much larger appears and destroys everything in sight. The “Mother Gorgo” then makes its way towards England in search of her child, being confronted by the British navy and army along the way to no avail and Mother Gorgo makes it to the British mainland. As Mother Gorgo makes her way through London, the military attacks her with everything they’ve got with minimal success as she rips through London’s famous landmarks. The Mother Gorgo finally reaches her child and the two are reunited. The two monsters then make there way back into the sea, leaving a decimated London behind, never to be seen again.

The "Mother" Gorgo stands at a height of 61 meters tall and weighs roughly 28,000 tons. Never having actually battled another kaiju, we can only speculate on what she and her kin would use in such a situation. Most certainly they would employ their long claws, sharp teeth, and tail in battle, but who knows what else these creatures are capable of in battle on land or sea.

The Gezora stood at a height of 30 meters tall and weighed 16,000 tons. Devoid of long-range beam weapons, besides it's icy mist blood when injured, Gezora relied on his tentacles to deliver huge blows or to entangle his enemies in battle. These tentacles were also very useful underwater, propelling Gezora through the sea at great speeds.

JUNE 2004

GODZILLA
Kaneko Version 2001

The Kaneko or 2001 version of Godzilla made his debut in the 2001 film, "GMK: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack." In this film it is explained that back in 1954, the seemingly indestructible monster Godzilla, a result of H-Bomb tests in the south Pacific, first made his appearance on an island near the Japanese mainland. Godzilla soon made his way toward the Japanese capital of Tokyo and completely destroyed the city, but was destroyed himself by a new weapon known only as the oxygen destroyer, or so everyone thought. For in the year 2002, nearly 50 years after Godzilla’s rampage on Tokyo, the monster returned, destroying a U.S. nuclear submarine and the very island he attacked all those years ago, Odo Island. This time around, however, Godzilla is not out to get humanity on his own agenda, he is now motivated by the souls of the millions of casualties from the U.S. and Japan battle in World War II. Godzilla seeks to avenge these dead souls, which inhabit his body, by attacking a modern Japan which has forgotten its past and the horrors of war. The Monster King soon appears on the Japanese mainland in Hakone, where he is attacked by the first of the three Sacred Guardians of Yamato, Baragon. After a fierce battle, Godzilla killed Baragon and proceeded to Tokyo, battling JSDF fighters along the way. Once the Monster king reached Tokyo, he was confronted by the combined strength of the remaining two Guardians of Yamato, Mothra and King Ghidorah. A long battle ensued between the three monsters with Godzilla taking the victory after destroying both King Ghidorah and Mothra, but the King of the Monsters was momentarily stunned when the souls which inhabited Baragon, Mothra, and King Ghidorah entered his body, sending him sinking into the ocean depths. Taking advantage of Godzilla’s situation, Lt. General Tachibana piloted a mini-submarine, dubbed the “Satsuma”, straight down Godzilla's throat and then burrowed his way back out of the monster's body, tearing flesh and organs alike. This caused Godzilla’s nuclear energies to run amok when he tried to use his radioactive heat ray, forcing the beam to expel from his chest and ultimately causing him to explode. Godzilla, however, lived on as his disembodied heart continued to beat at the bottom of Tokyo Bay, beginning the process of regenerating a new body.

For the film GMK: Giant-Monsters All-Out Attack, Godzilla stood at 60 meters tall and weighed 30,000 tons. In this film, Godzilla was an extremely vicious fighter, ripping into his opponents with physical attacks and then finishing them off with his extremely powerful radioactive heat ray. Godzilla showed no remorse in battle and beat his opponents senseless (particularly Baragon) before ending their lives. His viciousness didn't stop there though, as he used his heat ray on screaming humans that annoyed him as well. As always, Godzilla had his super regenerative powers to keep him going and to help him survive in the end of the film.

JULY 2004

YONGGARY

The "new" Yonggary made his debut in the 1999 film, "Yonggary." In this film, when scientists unearth the skeleton of an ancient monster, they unknowingly start an ancient prophecy that ends with Earth’s destruction! For when the skeleton of the monster, named Yonggary, is nearly out of the ground, an alien spaceship approaches the Earth and begins to destroy all space shuttles and military satellites, cutting off communications all over the world. What they do next is even more incredible, the actually resurrect the skeletonized Yonggary remotely from their spaceship, muscle, organs, and flesh growing from the bones and the scientists flee in terror. Once fully resurrected, the monster, under the control of the aliens, begins attacking the fleeing scientists. Helicopters are sent to stop the monster, but Yonggary is too powerful for them and can also be teleported by the aliens to get to the attack point directly, giving him a huge advantage. The surviving scientists then examine the prophecy and discover that if they break the diamond in the Yonggary’s forehead, the alien's control over him would be broken. Then a squad of military personnel called the T-Project moves out and manages to shatter the diamond, turning Yonggary into a friendly monster on the side of humanity. However, the aliens then send their ultimate weapon to destroy both Yonggary and the Earth, a monster named Cyker! Yonggary and Cyker engaged in a fierce battle, with Cyker sprouting new tentacles every time Yonggary managed to blast off one of his limbs. Finally, Yonggary was able to triumph over the evil monster by blowing up Cyker’s entire body and forcing the aliens to flee before Yonggary discovered his “true power”. Tired out from the battle, Yonggary is transported to an uninhabited island to live on by the military.

The Korean kaiju Yonggary stands at roughly 120 meters tall, 170 meters long, and weighs 65,000 tons (all estimates). In battle, Yonggary relies on both close and long-range attacks. For close-up battle, the Korean kaiju employs his speed, teeth, claws, and tail. For long-range attacks, Yonggary uses his fireballs to hammer his opponents into submission. Also, according to the aliens that resurrected the Korean kaiju, Yonggary also has other powers that are apparently not yet known to him.

SEPTEMBER 2004

MAGMA

Magma made his debut in the 1962 film, "Gorath." In this film, the giant walrus Magma was discovered by scientists during an attempt to move the Earth out of the way of a collapsing star dubbed Gorath. This was being done by a combined effort of the nations of the world to place giant rockets within the Arctic in order to use the jet purpulsion of the rockets to move the Earth out of the way of Gorath. However, the change in the Arctic's temperature caused by the rockets angered the giant walrus and Magma attacked, but the scientists were able to kill Magma with a powerful laser beam.

Magma stood at a height of 50 meters and weighed 25,000 tons. Having never actually fought another kaiju, Magma's strengths and weaknesses in battle can only be speculated upon. While probably slow on land, Magma would most likely have been a formatable foe in water with his excellent swimming ability. His tusks, teeth, and claws could also have dealt his opponents significant wounds.

OCTOBER 2004

DOGORA

Dogora made his debut in the 1964 film, "Dogora: The Space Monster." In this film, when an orbiting satellite collides with a space cell in the Earth’s orbit, the space cell begins to mutate rapidly and the space monster Dogora is born. The gigantic monster then instantly begins feeding on Earth’s sources of carbon, devouring coal and diamond deposits all over the globe. However, when Dogora decided to attack Japan’s coal fields, his weakness to insect venom was discovered. The Japanese then came up with a plan to defeat the monster and the insect venom was synthetically reproduced then loaded into warheads (like with the berry juice in King Kong vs. Godzilla). The plan succeeded and destroyed Dogora, raining huge chunks of solidified space cell mass onto the Earth as the venom destroyed the space monster.

Dogora was 500 meters tall and his weight is unknown (to me at least). Dogora is capable of flight in air and space, has long tentacles, and has a tractor beam-like weapon that sucks up minerals that he feeds on. Also, Dogora's lost body parts can regenerate into other Dogoras. Maybe if Dogora wasn't weak to insect venom, he could have depleted the Earth of its coal and diamonds.

NOVEMBER 2004

OODAKO

Oodako made his debut in the 1962 film, "King Kong vs. Godzilla." In this film, Oodako, otherwise known commonly as simply the Giant Octopus, has appeared on only a few different occasions, never actually confronting Godzilla himself though. Oodako first appeared on Faro Island, trying to get to the native’s berry juice, which induces an intoxicating effect on wildlife. Oodako nearly succeeded, even after an attempt to drive him off by the islanders, but was then attacked by King Kong, furious that another giant monster would dare invade his territory. Kong quickly defeated the giant octopus and sent it retreated back into the ocean depths. Oodako then disappeared for a few years, but was finally located by a Japanese ship, which was caught up in a storm ("War of the Gargantuas"). The giant octopus looked to make a meal out of the ship’s crew, but another monster wanted what Oodako sought, that monster being Gaila, the Green Gargantua. Oodako and Gaila battled, with Gaila eventually forcing the giant octopus to retreat again and proceeded to devour the crew himself. Oodako, his meal now gone, then swam back into the depths of the ocean never to be seen again. Oodako also made an appearance at the end of "Frankenstein Conquers the World", in which he attacked/drowned the Frankenstein monster, but the scene was cut from the film.

The giant octopus Oodako is 30 meters long and weighs 600 tons. Simply a larger version of your typical octopus, Oodako relies on his tentacles and suckers in battle. While capable of moving on land, the giant octopus doesn't fair very well on it and moves quite slowly, but in the water he is very agile and an excellent swimmer.

GUILALA

Guilala made his debut in the 1967 film, "The X from Outer Space." In this film, a spaceship is sent on a mission to Mars and is interrupted and attacked by a flying mass of organic material. The UFO fails to destroy the spaceship from Earth, but manages to force it to return to Earth. Once the ship returns, a piece of the UFO is found stuck to the engine of the ship and is analyzed by scientists. However, when the scientists left the substance unattended, it began to evolve and escaped by burning a hole in the floor. Then, the next thing the scientists know, a large monster appears nearby and attacks! The space monster, named Guilala, goes on a rampage all across the Japanese countryside in search of his food of choice, nuclear energy. That’s not even the worst part, because whenever Guilala devours the nuclear energy of a power plant, the space monster grows even bigger. So a new military unit, the Monster Defiance Headquarters, begins to devise a plan to stop Guilala, ultimately developing an anti-nuclear substance they call “Guilalalium.” A plan is then put together to lure Guilala into the country, away from any humans, and poison him with the Guilalalium. The plan succeeds and Guilala shrinks into a mass of the organic space material, which is loaded into a rocket and shot back into space, never to be seen again.

The X from Outer Space, Guilala, stood at 60 meters tall and weighed 15,000 tons. Guilala was capable of shooting at his targets with fireballs from his mouth and also used his claws and teeth. Guilala could also turn into a giant fireball to either travel great distances or attack his targets. Not much is known about Guilala's fighting habits for he has never fought another kaiju.
