For 1964’s “Ghidrah: The Three-Headed Monster”, Rodan returned to be big screen and made his debut in the Godzilla series. A new suit was constructed for the film, looking basically the same as the original suit, except the head was redesigned. The eyes were now bigger and had more white in them and the beak was totally redesigned, now looking more like a larger version of the beak of a songbird. The wings were also changed slightly and given a more rounded off shape. For the following year’s “Godzilla vs. Monster Zero”, the same suit was refurbished after suffering some damage. The suit was given a slightly more serious look and blended better with the flying version. Unfortunately, this suit also brought about the curved down beak look, which would also be used in “Destroy All Monsters”. In both of these films, Rodan was portrayed by suit actor Masaki Shinohara.
