When Rodan returned for the Godzilla Heisei series in 1993’s “Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II”, he had a completely new look to him. This time around, Rodan was made to look even more like a pteranodon. The beak was much longer than before and the entire body was given a much more bird-like appearance. The skin was more reddish, there were now three horns on his head and a row of spikes running down his back, and the wings were longer and actually had visible veins in them. The talons on the feet were now much more curved and noticeable, plus they were used more. The legs also looked more like those of a bird, specifically Big Bird. Also, this version of Rodan was the first to not be portrayed by a suit actor, it was portrayed by a giant marionette and a hand puppet version of the head/shoulders complete with blinking eyes. This version featured Rodan using a uranium heat beam, which earned it the nickname of Fire Rodan.
