My Comments
The second of Toho's Mothra trilogy started to wear a bit thin with the whole kids and save the environment plot, but it was still an alright film. Toho definitely took the idea of involving children to a whole new level in this film, but it was intended for kids. A good film for parents to watch with their kids, but not very satisfying otherwise. Anyway, onto the synopsis...
Synopsis
The Elias, Moll and Lora, are out enjoying a beautiful day on Infant Island watching Mothra Leo fly when suddenly a strange wind blows and Moll senses something is happening. Below in the ocean something stirs. Meanwhile, two fishermen are out attempting to get their day’s catch, when one of them spots a strange starfish-like creature clinging to the side of the boat. Investigating, he pokes at the creature, causing it to "erupt" with an acidic spray that injures the man. Meanwhile, eager to once again try to destroy all humanity, Belvera and Garu-Garu II fly off to capture something known as the Ghogo. This creature was the “treasure” of an undersea kingdom called Nilai Kanai, but unknown to Belvera, Ghogo was actually a living creature. A young Japanese girl finds Ghogo first, however, and she befriends it, but is attacked and chased by Belvera and Garu-Garu II, who were spying on them and retreat only when Moll and Lora arrive on Fairy Mothra.

Moll and Lora explain to the girl and her friends that Ghogo is from the Nilai Kanai civilization and a bit more of its history. After this, the Elias follow the children to school to do research and soon learn that the ancient and powerful sea monster Dagahra has been resurrected by the sheer amount of pollution in the ocean and Ghogo has come looking for help to find a way to defeat it. The starfish-like creatures also turn out to be products of Dagahra, called Barem, and they are covering the ocean. The children and the Elias then head out in a boat with Ghogo to locate the undersea temple of the Nilai Kanai. Meanwhile, failing to have captured Ghogo, Belvera takes control of the minds of two treasure hunters to help her capture it. Back with the Elias, Ghogo, and the children, when they reach a certain point in the ocean, Ghogo suddenly jumps out of the boat and a giant pyramid (the Nilai Kanai temple) rises from the depths of the ocean. However, they may be too late as Dagahra attacks a nearby Okinawan city, Moll and Lora then say they must summon Mothra Leo as the children, along with Ghogo, continue to search for a way to stop Dagahra.

Mothra Leo soon arrives and battles Dagahra and appears to be winning, but Dagahra then forces the battle into its underwater element, incapacitated Mothra Leo by covering him with Beram. With his enemy weakened, Dagahra threw Mothra Leo from the ocean depths and he landed atop the roof of the temple while the sea monster closed in to finish the giant moth off. However, the Nilai Kanai, who had created Dagahra as a means of pollution control eons ago (Dagahra turned on his creators and destroyed them), had planted ancient traps and the sea dragon was blasted with rays of rainbow lightning, forcing him to retreat back into the ocean. Meanwhile, one of the children is kidnapped by the men controlled by Belvera and as her friends race off to rescue her, they discover a hidden room deep in the pyramid. There they encounter the princess of the Nilai-Kanai who explains that the treasure they have been looking for has been with them all the time, Ghogo.

Learning this, Ghogo sacrificed itself and released his power to the wounded Mothra Leo, reviving him as Rainbow Mothra. Rainbow Mothra then destroyed the Beram covering his body and engaged Dagahra in battle once again. Overwhelmed by this far more powerful version of Mothra Leo, Dagahra once again retreated into the water, but was pursued underwater by Rainbow Mothra, who transformed into Aqua Mothra. Underwater, Aqua Mothra still overwhelmed Dagahra in battle and then suddenly split into thousands of tiny Aqua Mothras. These tiny Mothras then entered Dagahra's body and destroyed the Beram within, Dagahra’s Beram producing organs, and finally, Dagahra itself. The tiny Aqua Mothras then carried Dagahra’s body out of the ocean and dropped it on the temple, which was reduced to water along with the sea monster's body. Aqua Mothra then returned to his single form before transforming back Rainbow Mothra, having saved humanity once again.
