Mini Biography
Kenji Sahara was born May 14, 1932 to a wealthy family in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa. His screen debut came as a background extra in Godzilla where he had two bit parts, as both a journalist and as a ship passenger, appearing under the stage name Tadashi Ishihara. He changed his name to Kenji Sahara starting with his appearance as the lead in "Rodan" (1956). One of the most prolific of all Toho’s science fiction actors, he has played a wide variety of heroes and villains and gladly accepted cameo roles in the Heisei Godzilla series. In the Heisei series, Kenji Sahara played Director General of the Defense Army in "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah" (1991) and went on to play the reoccurring role of U.N.G.C.C. Director Segawa, a role he played three times for the films "Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II" (1993), "Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla" (1994), and "Godzilla vs. Destroyah" (1995). Kenji Sahara would return to the Godzilla series again for Godzilla's 50th Anniversary film "Godzilla: Final Wars" (2004). In this film he played a paleontologist that discovered/studied the mummified Gigan at Hokkaido and at the museum where the body way taken. His special effects film credits outside the Godzilla series include "The Mysterians" (1957), "H-Man" (1958), "Gorath" (1962), "Matango" (1963), "Frankenstein Conquers the World" (1965), "Battle of Japan Sea" (1969), "Yog: Monster From Space" (1970), and "Tokyo Gulf Burns" (1975).
