| After Gamera vs. Zigra, but before Daiei Studios went bankrupt in 1971, the studio actually had plans to make at least one more Gamera film. This film, called Gamera vs. Garasharp, would have been next in line for production with a 1972 release. Showa Gamera director Noriaki Yuasa had a story ready and pictures of the monsters all drawn up, presented them to the bosses at Daiei, and the project was green-lighted by the studio. However, the film never made it out of the pre-production stage due to the studio going bankrupt. | ||

This film would have taken place one year after Gamera battled and defeated the alien sea monster Zigra. The new monster, named Garasharp, would have appeared to wreak havoc on Japan with Gamera coming to the rescue as usual. However, despite Garasharp's many offensive attacks, including a poisonous breath and a sonic rattle, Gamera gains the upper hand, blasting the serpent monster's head from its body.
I've also heard that apparently Garasharp lays two eggs and once they hatch, the JSDF moves in to exterminate them, but Gamera intervenes. The giant turtle lands next to the infant monsters, allows them to slither onto his back, and then flies away with them in tow. Gamera then takes them to a deserted island, leaving them there so they cannot cause any harm. Garasharp was going to be a giant serpent, much like Manda. However, director Noriaki Yuasa wanted to make Garasharp like King Ghidorah and have him have multiple heads. Garasharp would’ve had two heads and during the battle with Gamera, the two heads would’ve split into two separate monsters for the giant turtle to battle. Also, from some of the old pictures that Mr. Yuasa still has, it appears that Garasharp would have been able to spit fire, much like Gamera could. |
